Help. Don't know if it's wear or all the rain over the last months but the spongy strip under the sliding window is giving problems.

It has gone rock hard and screws up when I TRY to slide the side window open.

If I just remove it all, will it cause ptoblems?

If I try to replace it, can I buy some easily and is it the sort of job I can do myself. TY.

jockaneezer . ?

Give it a spray with silicone or similar, don’t think that you can remove it easily
Thank you. I did try WD40 at first but it did no good. Then, it started to just curl up as I tried to open the window..... and the window will now only oen 1inch or so before it all curls up. :(

Hi Joy, my van doesn't have that type of window, but I would try a bit of Mr Sheen or Pledge furniture polish on the slides and clean out the grooves with an old toothbrush or similar ?

Thanks all but I think it's too late for that as the roll of whateveritis has squidged up and is sticking up. It's rotted I think.

But thanks for your help. Once it is sorted when I can take it somewhere, I'll remember your advice for the future.

As mentioned some furniture polish as a stop gap.. but if you have a Screwfix around the do a large can of silicon spray. Lots of uses for the van. WD40 can cause issues as it makes plastic swell etc.

Today it drove me nuts in the intense heat so I cut the rotting bit off that was sticking up. Now I can open the window...... BUT does it mean that where the bit 'is no more'.... Is a dead bit,. Can the water run down inside the van lining? :(

Hi Joy hope your well. Try a windscreen fitter, they fit all sorts of windows and may have some kind of seal similar to the one that’s in there. (y)

Joy, don't panic. If it forecasts rain stuff a rag or similar in the gap and tape over it to keep the worst off until you can get it replaced.

Thank you. I shall do that tomorrow. :)
