Hi all I’m after advice from somebody who knows about bodywork in hab area on Motorhome anyway I looked at a van yesterday and noticed when the sun shone on one side it’s the front passenger side like they cut corner sharp maybe . At the bottom looked a bit ripply and like a filler mark and like pinholes appearing ?? The guy had it from a dealer and has owned it for 3 years and insists it first time he noticed it after I mentioned it also problem is it’s not up to date with hab check I did check with a draper damp meter and reading are ok but I think it’s had a repair but how would I know how bad it was or maybe it was a cress that’s had been Repaired maybe .What to do mmm as like van just wondering about this I found if the sun wasn’t on it I would have missed it

Can you see the area from inside, perhaps under a seat or in a locker?

If its been filled you can check with a weak magnet. Inside a plastic bag so it doesn't scratch. Just draw the magnet over the area you think has been filled and you should "feel" any changes due to filler etc.
Can you check with a mirror behind the suspect area?
If the van is not relatively new then most owners won't do a hab check. Best to get a check list and go over it yourself. Most things are fixable, but damp is a worst case.
Best of luck

Hi all I can’t see from inside as fridge and cupboards build in the van is a 2015 and he has never had a hab check done but if I run my hand across the bottom outside trim you feel a ripple and slightly see wear like a filer spread scrap is underneath and then looks like a vinyl wrap over most people won’t see it but I found it and know it’s there .He days he never knew and never had trouble with damp ect it’s a chausson so are these vans wrapped I can see wear the white wrap meats the blue decals

If you have doubts just walk away. You will never be happy with it if it has been repaired, or not knowing. I think it is quite possible the owner didn’t know, but now you’ve also upset him ????

Yes it’s a shame Andy as rest looks good it just The not knowing what has happened was it a little repair or a bigger problem and would it lead to further problems down line if someone was open to check it out I could have done that but he also got other people interested so I can’t really jump at it until I’m sure it’s ok

Must admit, I missed a repair on mine whist buying. Only plastic rear trim, and it’s not a bad repair, but every time I wash that area I get annoyed, and question who knew, and question how was it parked when I viewed it.

So I can understand.

If you like the van and it’s a good price you could get a better repair done... but of course once the wrap is off there may be a lot more damage there..?

it’s a good time to haggle...

but he also got other people interested so I can’t really jump at it until I’m sure it’s ok
I’ll always tell a buyer that I’ve got others interested...?
