We have a 2001 1.9d Peugeot Boxer Van. It has a snapped gear cable and so is currently off the road. We thought it would be pretty simple to book it into the garage to get fixed..... we were wrong!
We got the part numbers for the 2 cables from Peugeot (2444T1 and 2444T4) and after lots of enquiries, we found out that these are no longer manufactured. I have been unable to source the parts second hand anywhere either (tried peugeot specialists, scrap yards, ebay, facebook, europe...) Our last ditch attempt was to send the cables to someone to recondition - unfortunately this was also a failure and every single cable company has now come back to me and told me that they cannot make these cables. Pics of the 2 cables attached - the longer cable is the one that has snapped
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try Westgate hill breakers.

They have all sorts of old vans.

Also there is a specialist pug motorhome breaker somewhere... Someone will know of them. Think it was for an air filter duct someone needed recently.

Cheers James

RM_Marine Unfortunately that one is for left hand drive only (there are quite a few of these around) and we have been told by Peugeot that these will not fit!

Manic We have spoken to Coastal Motorhomes a couple of times and unfortunately this one is LHD only aswell!

tonyidle I sent the cables up there on Tuesday, unfortunately they called me this morning to advise they couldnt help and have sent them back to me today. Who knew this would be so difficult!

I can't help with your problem but it is suprising your finding it so difficult. It's hard to see what difference left / right hand drive would make. The gear stick and engine are both in the same place.
Good luck, I hope you get fixed up quickly

Hi, if you are not able to obtain the correct cable, the only choice would be to shorten the long cable. This could be done by a country garage who does the servicing repairing and welding. These are usually found inthe countryside where of the shelf parts are not available. The adjustable end would need to be removed as it is obviously soldered or brazed on. Once removed the cable shorten to the required length and resoldered or brazed. I realise that this information is probably helpful in your current predicament but it is how I would have done it (50years ago).

Are you sure the LHD won't fit, even if you re-route it differently? (i.e. take a more circuitous route if it is too long).

Try Speedy Cables (London) Ltd - they are actually in Wales.....

Sorted a cable for me (y)

You could try Gloucester road gearboxes in Bristol. They specialise in Peugeot gearboxes and clutches so might have one on the shelf. 0117 992 6563
If not they would know where to get one.

How about buying the wrong/longer cables and then sending them to the refurbishing place to alter length

Just came across this on eBay. They seem to be breaking several.

Hey Sarah, how did you get on? Cable sorted and van back on the road?

I did notice they were a free member but only after asking how they had got on. They have only made four posts so maybe they will answer .......

Don't know where you are based but I used a company called Catton cables in Kings road, Tyeseley, Birmingham for a throttle cable for my Kawasaki. They use your original hardware and assemble using new inner & outer cables. Hope this helps.
