Long complicated story, but son has just managed to get back to UK as he was long way away when lockdown hit, went straight to his MH in storage in Surrey because he'd had a notification on his phone that someone had tried to start it and this is what he found.
He's utterly grateful to Vanbitz, because it was the engine immobiliser they fitted that stopped it being stolen - but this is the mess they left trying to over-ride it, and he's convinced they will be back once the scumbags have worked out how.
He travels a lot, but when he's in the UK it is his f/t and only home, so a double whammy. Anyone know anyone that can help asap?
Many many thanks

eddievanbitz he tried to ring you but went to answerphone due to lockdown, which is understandable, but just wondered if you've got any ideas/suggestions to help him? They had even stolen a battery from another unit to try to get it going!

That sure looks like an insurance claim from the picture. Even then I bet the repair shop is going to struggle to sort the mess out without some input from Vanbitz as the immobilising system will i image interfere with the repair

Wow that's certainly a mess and looks like they've spent some time on it!

However, testament to Vanbitz immobiliser for stopping them in their tracks and personally would be surprised if they would return, unless it's with a low loader......

I sincerely hope that your son is able to resolve matters without too much delay.

Yeah, I agree totally totally about the insurance. But when he put it into storage, aiming to away long term, he decided it as it was in 'secure' storage he didn't need to pay to insure it as well. Being mum and always super cautious I told him he should definitely still keep it insured... But now doesn't seem the right time for a 'I told you so' discussion...

A proper mess and hopefully your son can get it fixed to an acceptable level.
If there was to be a very minor pro out of this it's a heads up to others who are considering not renewing insurance as a result of the current lockdown.

Yes indeed. What a false economy that turned out to be for him

What was the "security guys" doing while this was going on? I would think if it's a proper site they will be insured against this sort of thing.

No concelation i know and I do feel for him but just adds weight to the many can I cancel insurance and sorn vehicle seeing it won't be used threads that have appeared here over the weeks. My heart goes out to him.

Different on site couple to when he left. Seems they slept through it! No dogs, no CCTV, no alarms, basically a gift to the scumbags. When son left it there he thought it was really secure, two sets of locked gates, bollards, but now he realises that if they can go to such lengths with his van, then the security would be nothing to them.

Sorry to see that, looks expensive with the steering lock & other parts broken. What is surprising is that they spent so long on it, I would have thought they would have moved onto another vehicle.

Yes but it seems they had all night, the wardens/security tucked up in bed. Apparently they ripped the tracker out of another unit (might have been a caravan, not sure, all this is second-hand info) and wardens said the tracker company didn't report the activity to the owners til the next morning (but it was set off at 3am). Don't know how the tracker notification works, but that doesn't sound very good...

I know it looks a mess but I can't see any broken connections? It is a small sample photo though I understand.
I can see the key transponder ring is still connected and if you put a key next to it whilst a screwdriver turns the smashed key barrel won't it start? Assuming you have the blipper or fobs for the immobiliser?
What I am thinking is get it running and move to a secure site for now. Eddie may be able the help, but I think an auto electrician rather than MH technician is what's needed.

Is that the steering lock still attached to the steering wheel ?

Email me info@vanbitz.com and I’ll pick up the contact details
Thanks Eddie, have given your email address to him

Re the other points above, he has got the fob for the immobiliser but the key barrel was totally detached.

LOL well I do have 30 odd years experience
Sorry Eddie, wasn't sure if you would be able to help this user if too far away etc... Just pointing out the fact it is a Van front that an auto electrician copuld take a crack at rather than a specialist Motorhome technician (trying to give them more options whilst in lock down).

lol No problem, I was only joking (y)

Sorry to say it but the 'secure' storage doesn't seem very 'secure'
I don't suppose for one minute they carry insurance as it was in their care.

Probably the usual "at the owners risk" cop out clause.

Can this 'secure' storage facility be named? Just in case other funsters have their vehicles stored there.

One for the leader to answer.

I don't think there is such a thing as secure storage OK some might be better than others BUT.

Martin

i think you will find the onus to insure is on you his lucky it didnt catch fire because with no insurance he could have been liable for damage to the other vans most storage will have third party insurance as a condition to store it
