Good afternoon all.
I have just joined after finding the site. Like the banter after reading a few posts, so looking forward to it all. We are in the market for a new vehicle. Went up to NEC back in February, fully aware of delivery times etc. After months of research no doubt like you all I have come to the conclusion that maybe a conversion is my best route bearing in mind our spec and wish list. Are you aware of anyone who offers this on a Ford Transit chassis? My reason for putting the Ford at number 1 is box like form. Spec, bang for buck against our German friends who do like to stick it to you... I was in the motor trade on the car side working for two German manufacturers so it appears nothing changes. Many thanks...

Most of the bespoke builders will convert any vehicle for you. If you know what you want ring around.
I was astounded by the prices some of them charge though.
There are a couple of guys on fun that do bespoke work.

Hi and welcome 👍Most conversions are from the Fiat stable vans simply because they are wider on the inside. ,6 ft 2 ins Tranny's are only 5 ft 9 ins and narrow to 5ft 2 at the roof 😲Merc's and VW are also narrow but long and command premium price.
Remember it will cost the same to convert a older van so buy the newest you can afford. Expect to pay around 10/15 k for everything inside plus the converter charges.

Hi Terry

Thanks for your information. I was not aware that the Ducato was wider than the Transit. Every day you learn something new. Cheers

You are aware that the transit is the most stolen van out there.
You can even buy the means to steal openly on eBay.

Hi Pappajohn

Thanks for that. Does not surprise me this day and age. One thing at the top of my list before any frills is tracker etc.

Ford's have always been easy to n8ck. From hitting the front bumpers on Mondeos and the half tennis ball trick over key holes. After it has been pinched and abused do you really want it back? Even if the no frills tracker finds it?

Ducato,Relay and Boxers all same vans. All widest inside by at least 4 ins .next come Renault Master's 5.10 then Transit ,sprinter,Crafter and Iveco all 5.9 ish. Be aware that if you get a professional job done you will get good money come sale time if it's a FB shed then you will loose a packet.
As a first van you may be wiser getting a used one from a mainstream converter, seeing how you get on and deciding exactly what you want then get one converted. At least that way you should get almost all your money back and if bought wisely may even make a profit 😉
