I have a Garmin SatNav that plugs into a cigarette socket.

When I previously used a TomTom I was able to purchase a special wiring cable that I could permanently connect. I can't find anything equivalent for Garmin.

Has anyone done this?

I’ve never seen one but haven’t looked too hard.

It should be a straightforward task to cut off the plug and wire what’s left into the vehicle’s circuit.
My Garmin has that in-line FM receiver bit so that puts me off “experimenting.
That & mrskevenh thinks having the lead plugged into the cigarette lighter socket 🤷‍♂️ is OK
Edit: add missing words

I don't think its quite as simple as that because I think the voltage is reduced to 5v in the plug.

I think I may wire an inline socket under the dash and keep it plugged into that with the wiring tidied up.

I just wondered if anyone else had done it. I don't like the cable dangling over the dash. It's also far too long.

Garmin say don’t do it here
Pistonheads feedback is mixed here
But if you’re SatNav power lead is a simple 12v cable maybe someone has a better method.

Garmin say don't do it unless you use the official cable. But I can't find the cable anywhere

Yep, No lead mentioned; that was a dead end.
Their article takes you to sat navs for trucks. Maybe they have hardwired installs out of the box.

I fitted an extra cigarette socket on the side of the dash out of the way to power my Avtex tourer one(Garmin 770)

I've done it before a few times. I wired the socket into the fusebox via a fuse, and then plugged in the Garmin cigarette plug into that. You're stuck with the plug as the cable acts as the aerial. I've never been able to find a lead that does the same job. If you tie the clump of wiring and plug/socket up under the dash that's the best you can do. Works OK.

Connecting it up with a usb power lead is easy, via a fuse. But the unit won't work properly unless the original cigarette lighter lead is used as it includes the aerial, sadly. Unless anyone has found a replacement lead that includes the vital aerial that is?

OEM power leads are readily available. Need to plug into a cigar lighter socket which you can hardware with piggy back fused cable concealed behind fuse box cover.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to wire a cigarette-type socket under the dash and plug into that

Oops, sorry drpeej , I had hardwired the Tyrepal unit and the dashcam, but not the satnav. For the satnav I used something similar to one of these: Amazon product ASIN B07CM7PJQB
