Whilst on our way to Shropshire today the handbrake warning light is coming on and off and flickering while driving . Handbrake seems to be working as normal . Could this be a faulty sensor ? Vehicle is fiat Ducato 2006 2.8JTD .
Anyone had this before ?

I used to get it on the Chausson and the cause was the handbrake lever not being quite all the way down. I had to put it as far down as possible and then give it a slight thump on the end. Cured by adding a handbrake extension :) so I could release the handbrake all the way for sure.

This might not be your issue of course and it could be a faulty sesor or even a bit of much somewhere.

And if the brake fluid is low it’s usually an indicator that your front brake pads are nearly worn out

It isn't a 'sensor' as such. It's a simple switch at the bottom of the lever and prone to all the ailments of switches in exposed positions.

Not quite! Worth checking though, usually from max to min on the reservoir means about1/2 worn pads but of course it varies from vehicle to vehicle,

Thanks guys . Brake pads and disks were new a few months ago . Fluid levels seem to be ok . I will keep my eye on things 👍🏻

Another vote for handbrake lever switch.....

or the adjusting nts are loose.
Handbrake switch loose or maladjusted then.
There's only so many things it can be and you covered most.
What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^

the circuit is negative switched on the handbrake. So a chaffed cable will make the light flicker. Or dirt in the switch, or any of the above

Or even a loose cable connector on the switch, they are really a very simple setup
Thank you . The motorhome is currently in for service and MOT and that’s on the list of things to be looked at 👍🏻
