Half an hour on the LPG pump ?

Probably werent aware they only needed 2 litres .
No guages to tell you whats in them so theres a few possible reasons why.
Maybe they've not used it for a while.
Maybe just bought it.
Maybe going somewhere they cant fill it for a while.
Maybe only one bottle on board and worried they'd run out.

I only had one 6kg refillable bottle on an old van I had once.

I topped it up every few days just incase

But if it took half an hour to fill 2 litres theres something wrong with the pump

Or the system

Is there a story behind this post, I thought you didn’t do self service so presumably not at your location

I am as surprised that the site didn’t intervene than the customer not know better

I actually challenge the half an hour though, it’s hard enough to hold the button long enough to fill for a few minutes , bit of mis timing I suspect

I spent less than 5 minutes putting 6 litres in the other week. Wouldn’t normally do that but we were in Norway heading to an area with no LPG and I wanted to be full as it was below freezing at night so heating required.

A month ago, I tried to fill up with LPG at a garage where I’d previously filled up with no issue. This time, I connected up, zeroed the pump, pressed the button and waited and waited and waited. Nothing, not a fart of gas, nada. Disconnected and re-connected again, still nothing. Told the cashier of the issue but he just shrugged his shoulders. Offered no explanation or suggestion. So drove off, having wasted half and hour.

I filled up a few days ago. Wasn’t sure how much we need or shall use so was tempted not to fill it all the way. I then thought I’m here with the pump running, if I don’t fill it sure as fate we shall need more so just fill it. 131 litres in about 8 mins, I wasn’t timing.

No 'range anxiety' there then? ;)

Doesn't that large LPG tank restrict your travel on ferries/tunnel? I thought they limited to 47kg total.

The tunnel has a limit but can’t remember what it is but never had an issue. The tank is 150L but well hidden underneath.

Would you really stand at an LPG pump holding the button in to only get 2 litres in ?
Sometimes it’s amazing what people will do 🤯
Is it a case of someone having a full bottle then forcing more gas in past the safety valve ?

It's 90lt for a fixed tank on the tunnel.
Ive always looked at it as its 90lt per vehicle, but very few vehicles have 90lt ..so if you've more it evens out 😁

Im considering having an underslung tank fitted where it had one before to run alongside my bottles. As some places its a pain in the arse to get it.
Ive to drive down to clydebank from here to fill mine up these days.

I used to run my range rovers on LPG (a while ago now).
I carried a 'jerry can', in the form of a small propane bottle. Made up some adaptors to hydraulic fittings for the bottle and the vehicle fill adaptor, so I could decant into the car.

Not that I'd recommend this to anyone who is not fully confident with liquid gas transfer, but the theory is:
Propane gas pressure is mostly dictated by temperature. When the car tank runs low, the level drops below the liquid take off dip tube, and begins to draw vapour from the tank. So the evaporation was happening in the tank, rather than at the heated demand valve in the engine bay, causing the tank to cool and it's pressure to drop.
Then it was then easy to couple the jerry can bottle to the car (invert the bottle, so it feeds liquid). As the bottle was at ambient temp, the propane would be drawn into the car. No need for any pumps.
You are relying on only transferring small quantities of gas. As the warm new gas will warm up the tank in the car, and reduce your pressure differential.

That got me out of a few scrapes. Especially late one christmas-day night, when we ran low on gas and found that the pump in the petrol system had failed, so no option to drop back to petrol.

(Before anyone gets shouty.... I am experienced with this stuff. And anyone with enough understanding to try and replicate it, should know enough to be aware of the risks involved.)

Well I just "filled" up my gaslow on the way back from having 11days off grid but just using lpg for the fridge . I have a 6kg and a 11kg gaslow. Running on the 6kg I checked the gauge and it was still full green. I expected to have used at least 10litres but on fill up it only took 6.9 litres.
Just short of £7. At 99p/ litre
Hey ho.
But can rest easy knowing have max lpg on board as we will be off grid again for 12 days shortly.
