I think the intention was to lay artificial turf over the top, with the concrete just acting as the base to take the weight. Which is why I thought a concrete solution was a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Just remove 40 to 50mm depth of soil and put down plastic grids, lay the artificial turf over the top -- job's a good 'un. The plastic grids can support many tonnes per square metre -- if you are paranoid, you can fill them with pea shingle and they'll support even more.

There’s so much rubble in the ground that I think the builders used it as a rubble dump and then put 6” of topsoil on for the grass..!

Was just going dig two trenches and get a couple of dumpy bags of concrete a mixer and fill it...

Motorhome will probably only drive on and of about 8-10 times a year so hopefully grass will last a few years and if it does I’ll cut in some replacements...
As above

I’d dig down 6” and would lay two layers of Council type paving flags, one on top of the other staggered over the joints. Builders merchants sell the council type paving flags but you can also pick them up cheap on Facebook’s marketplace.
With laying one on top of another, you’d be hard pressed to crack them if laid flat and straight.
May work out cheaper than your concrete option, plus you could easily take them up and re-grass if you wanted.

Buy four of those plastic jobbies that you use on rally fields when it’s wet.
Two on each side laid lengthways, job done.:D

Sorry to disagree but this does not look like a good solution to me. The gravel is going to spill over onto the lawn in no time, especially where the mh drives because the tyres will pick it up, and the grass is likely to go ragged over the edges and be difficult to cut. It needs a hard edge around it like paviours, kerbing, brick on edge etc to define and protect the edge IMO.

He's going to cover it with artificial grass, though, not real grass.

Smiffy can I have a go ?

If it were me I would dig down around 400mm and twice the width of the wheels.

I would fill the trenches with concrete and use rebar.
Then level all the area with coarse compacted sand and lay the Astro turf over the area.

No need to go over the top in the area you’re going to park the van.

This area can be separated from the other grass area.

If you’re doing all the area it can be prepped with around 200mm of type one compacted again layed with coarse sand compacted.

If the ground is really boggy you can fit land drains.

There's a private old folks complex near us comprising four two story blocks of flat.
All the resident parking is on plastic grid over soil with pea gravel infill.
It's been there around 40 years and still hasn't sunk.

Having investigated more I’m going with the plastic grids which have a load rating of 5t...
I have dug down and compacting some crushed granite, laying the grids and covering with same granite. Then I’m laying down some membrane, sand then covering the whole area with artificial grass..
This area doesn’t get used other then to park the Motorhome on when we’re home and this will be the easiest method for me to do myself and probably the most cost effective and I think will be adequate for the Motorhome....:)

I’ve all ready dug out yesterday and lying the rest today... I’ll take a pick for you when finished

I can't remember if you said earlier, but why the 'need' to cover the drive itself with artificial grass? I can understand you wanting to remove the rest of the grass itself and replace it if you don't want the maintenance but I think going over the granite will look weird and probably lumpy.

Would it be an idea instead to remove the grass and put down weed suppressant membrane and then 'granite' the whole lot so it blends with the new drive bit?

You won't get much growing through artificial grass :)

I beg to differ, it depends very much on the quality of the grass and it isn't a cheap option either, we've certainly seen 'weeds' in some artificial grass, maybe down to how well, or not, it was laid but I'd much rather have it all looking the same and if the grass on the granite part wears it will look naff.

Probably saw surface weeds.
All the the artificial I've seen are a woven type back and bound together with a type of plastic.

There are holes to allow water to migrate through but a weed would be very lucky to hit one of said holes :)

Ok, dug a couple of trenches put in a few inches of crushed granite then put the plastic grids in and covered with same granite.... they are slightly lower then the lawn as when I put the membrane down and then the artificial grass covering the “whole lot’ of grass you can see in the pictures, the lawn will sink slightly as the grass will die off...

So, more room on my drive and no jungle to cut when we come back from hols..???

Trouble with Granite gravel is the mould that get on it turns it black ish
It's like a pebble dashed house, looks good to start with then the mould sets in and it looks absolute shite.
Stick with the broken slate you already have would be my advice.

Yes, when we had ours done it looked a bit "unnatural" but after a few months it seemed to mellow down a bit and nobody can tell without feeling it now.
