Hi I have a 2015 Rapido a class would I be able to put a gel battery on there is no switch on the charger as I can see the one that is on is a banner flooded thanks albial

Unless your charger has a setting for Gel they will never fully charge so not advisable.
It might help if you posted make and model of charger.

Hi Lenny Just had a look at the charger it is CB516 and CBE.

Thanks albial

Looks like there is a gel setting.
You should be able to get manual online.
If you have solar, there may be a setting on your solar charger as well.

Also they reckon 1 amp on charger for 10 amp battery.
I have 36a chargers for 360 ah exide gel batteries.

Just had a look at the manual here as Sue says it's fine for Gel, Looks like you have to take the case off to change the switch to Gel.
As for size of chargerrelitive to battery bank size it depends how yoiu use your van. Although in my Hymer I have 3 Gel batteries on the Leisure side I only have the standard 18 amp charge. The reason I've not upgraded the charger is because I ralely ever use mains to charge the batteries I rely on 300 watts of solar. Only likly to overload the charger if changing the batteries from flat.

Also on my hymer, there was a schaudt wa121545 booster. This is to give optimal charging whilst driving.
This needed to be set to gell as well.

That's because you have a smart alternator on your Merc.

Thanks everyone
