Tonight I filled the gas low R67 bottle to full - auto shutoff of the filling pump. The level showed full on the Mopek App.
Half an hour later the app showed a low level warning. Opened the gas locker - no smell of gas but an empty bottle
Have I read somewhere this can happen if the bottle shutoff valve doesn’t reseat properly especially if the bottle hasn’t been
Refilled in a while ?.
Any thoughts or fixes ?
Thanks

LPG is very similar to refrigerant which I'm very familiar with... Losing 6kg of gas in half an hour you'd hear it hissing quite loudly with very cold liquid escaping and vaporising into visable clouds as it escapes. Are you sure it's all gone?

Just googled R67 and it 11kg! ? there's no way that's gone in half an hour and you've not seen or heard anything.

Well filled with 9kg now 0.
fill pipe was cold - but that’s normal isn’t.

Have you felt the weight of the bottle to make sure? That's a hell of a leak. Put 1kg in and you'll hear it p1ssing out somewhere.

Sounds more like it hasn't filled properly.
If there is no smell in the locker the only other place it could come out is the filler and to do that you would have to have 2 faulty one way valves one in the bottle & one in the filler, very unlikely.

Not sure it would even go in half an hour (depending on mix). At first it would evaporate furiously, which would lower the temperature of the remaining liquid, eventually the last half maybe would sit in the bottle at atmospheric pressure simmering at (depending on mix) -40°c bottle bottom half frosted up.

Sometimes to get refrigerant moving we have to pour hot water on the cylinder ?

Do you know the bottle is empty, might the fault be on the gauge?

All good stuff I will investigate the weight and ultra sonic sender - Thanks

for that amount to be lost you would smell it strongly. I could smell a leak that made a tiny bubble every 2 seconds.

How big is the bottle, 13kg or 6kg and how much went in the first time. An emtpy 13kg would be about £12-£13 to fill

No much chance you could lose that much gas in that time and not smell it.
Possibly the shutoff kicked in really early or the ultrasonic is playing up. Seems odd both seemed to think it was full at the same time though

9kg or 9 litres? 9kg is roughly 18 litres.

I bet it's the sensor that's at fault as you'd know if you'd lost that amount of gas and would certainly smell it inside the locker/outside the MH.

Ring Gaslow they are brilliant in helping ,I was near to the North Cape and they rang me and helped solve the problem.

Many sonic devices, including Truma, say they do not work properly with refillable bottles. I emailed Truma to ask why and they replied that the built in gauges interfere with the sound signal they use. My guess is the cylinder float has moved with filling into a position where you are getting a false reading. What does the built in gauge read?

All is fine !
shouldn't do these things late at night in freezing temperatures !
I pulled the bottle out its heavy enough to be full and when I disturbed it the
small hard to read float gauge swung to indicate full.
The Ultrasonics still say its empty but thats for investigation another day.
Once again Thanks to all for your views.

It was just an estimate, its 55p around here
21ltrs to 80% fill @ 55p = £11.55 wasn't far out
Usually with refillables the quoted size of the bottle is the 80% capacity. So 11kg Gaslows or Gasits take 11kg of gas which is approximately 22 litres and the 14kg Alugas ones take 14kg of gas which is approximately 28 litres. Don't know who makes a 13kg one though, so they may quote the 100% capacity.

Your sonic gauge may start working again when the bottle is half empty and the internal float has moved to a different position.

Our float gauge stuck once, they just need a tap to free them after filling up.

Gasit were calling their new Gen2 13kg for a while. Now seem to be calling it an 11kg for some reason. Maybe just to avoid confusion while selling older 11kg Gen1 off.

Ok if going for 22ltrs, I was 55p out so £12.10 , still well within my £12-£13 estimate :xgrin:

Great the OP worked out his vanishing gas problem (y)

Where are you buying your gas from at less than 50p per litre please?
I use SafeFill bottles (lighter and cheaper) so I can take them to be refilled. Because it's clearly for heating rather than propulsion, you don't need to pay VAT. You do need to find a depot that recognises this, though.

Ahhhh but you are so much younger than me ........ :giggle:

One of the main reasons I have put in refillables is to stop humping around gas bottles at my age. After all the older you get the less humping you want to do ..................................

And Angela......? ?

I wish (Two refers to my Reg, not Age)!
I fully understand the desire to make life easier, but you wondered (if you can still remember; ) how you can get lpg for less than 50p/litre... If you pump into the side of your vehicle, you may avoid the humping but you're unlikely to be able to avoid the VAT.

I will pay the VAT ............................... honest.

If you can show the filler is for your domestic LPG (either tanks or cylinders) then there's no reason why you can't also reduce your VAT to 5%, the difficulty is finding somewhere that does the domestic use tax rate as most don't.

Are you sure? I thought it was more to do with stamina ... :giggle:
