changing a load of things again
I am new to a coach built van. I have just put a deposit on a 2018 Autotrail Tribute T620. when looking over the van i noticed a small gas fire on the wall. my last van had a truma 4e which was great, water and heating with gas and 12v as i rarely used hook up. it had 300ah lith and 600w solar plus a 3000 sine wave inverter.

  • What heats the water for the shower?
  • Can i run the heating off 12v and gas?
  • can i re route/wire the fridge to run off the 12v leisure batt
thanks for the replies

Probably yes.. it will have a separate boiler to the heater and should/may run on 12v/gas...
I know any c'van I have had with such a set up worked off grid.

I would think the water heater would only work on 240 v EHU and gas ,definitely not 12 v. .
I think if you used the inverter to hear the water for a shower you would soon deplete the batteries. Depending on your fridge type you can rewire for 12 v from your leisure battery but you are probably better putting a 12 v compressor fridge in .

the plan would be 12v and gas for the water. 12v for the pump and fan, gas for the water heating. just wanted to know if you can heat the van without using 240?

Think he referring to truma 4e where a 12v control / fan voltage is required even when on gas.
The heater he refers to in new van will also probably have 12v supply for fan to blow air around van
So yes you do need 12v to work these units even if the heating is not done by 12v.

Yes you can heat the van with gas( blown hot air) but as poppycamper advised you also need 12 v to blow the heated air around.we had a Truman gas fire in a swift and it was a gas convector and would also heat up on 240v but didn't need a fan.
You could also look at a desiel heater if you didn't want to use gas all the time.

I read it as OP did not want to use EHU he has no issues using gas so no need for diesel heating
