On our way South, having a beautiful run through France taking D roads roughly in line with A20. Our problem is the Garmin (which we have used for many years) worked fine in UK but will not show map in France. That said the only difficulty is finding the Aires. Could I have any help on this??

Go to Geant Casino or Carrefore and get a new one, cheap as chips and will have french maps, OR download CoPilot app, fantastic, I have the whole world downloaded as I never know where I will be tomorrow :D2

When Nick updated our Garmin last year before we left for France there was a software glitch and despite ticking all of Europe we only had Northern Europe which didn’t help much. I obviously blamed him until a bit of googling found it was a know problem. We had to go back to an old software version when we got home. Whilst in France I used google maps on my iPhone. Once you’ve got your route loaded you can turn data off if you haven’t got much data but we found that if we just left it on 3G rather than 4G it really didn’t use much.

Google maps or Waze (owned by google I think).
Just got back from a week in Cyprus and absolutely faultless.
Got TT preinstalled in the car. Never use it

You do not say which model you have which may help pinpoint the problem. My 770 LMT-D has one European map. Have you tried to reset it, this may solve the problem assuming you have the actual map downloaded. No need to buy another one until you have explored all possibilities and a simple fix may be a moment away.

When was the last time it had an update ?
All GPS units were supposed to updated in or around April...It was not just a map update but a firmware update to being the clock up to speed with the signals sent from the sats

Our last motorhome had a Kenwood unit with Garmin sat nav. Like you it would only update to northern Europe. Lots of emails to and fro to the Garmin help desk. Finally someone suggested updating the software on the unit first. I did this and all maps updated no problem.

Our sat nav is the garmin camper and it was a funny glitch last year March/April 2018 and Nick had to reinstall an older software version to get the maps back for the whole of Europe back. He has done software updates this year and it’s fine but we now check at home rather than at the ferry terminal! We were at Poole and trying to enter the coordinates for somewhere along the Cherbourg peninsula and thought we’d gone daft.
Thanks though.

I recently checked for software & map updates on our newish Avtex Garmin 770 LMT Camper Edition.
It took over 3 hours to complete the Full update, software first them maps for all of Europe.
Thats despite having a super fast broadband fibre connection, so I guess it must have been a very large update to take that long.
As others have suggested, when you get a chance, try another full update, and dont disconnect from PC before its fully completed. Also make sure that the Garmin is fully charged before you start any large update, as the USB port on you PC will not be able to charge the Garmin whilst connected (or at least ours doesn't as we get a box appear on The Garmin telling us that its not being charged during software updates)
Good luck

Tend to use Maps these days but coming out of Biarritz towards the Pyrenees on the back roads it tried to put me through a tunnel with dimension of 1.6m x 1.8m (might have been the other way round but my jaw had dropped by this point).
I would happily pay if they had the facility to cater for Motorhomes.

It is and you are correct! The whole map is replaced each time at around 10 G.B. A real pig if your on the road in anouther counyry when the update becomes available. You would think they could just update the map rather than replace it.

What's interesting is that any other (other than satnav that is) 10gb download takes minutes.

Updated 2 sat navs, desktop and laptop last week with 2020.20 and in total it took around 4 hours. Desktop and laptop were around 30-40 minutes each with the sat navs taking around 1.5 hours each.
