I remember somebody saying that this still guided them up tiny country roads. However, they tweaked the dimensions in settings, and it works fine now.

I’ve just bought one of these and wondered if to go slightly smaller (or larger)?

Thanks

Even putting that we are significantly wider than we actually are doesn’t seem to make much difference. The only thing that is useful in our experience and we’ve had ours years, is the height. I always check the route on google as well, that tends to be better and sticks to better roads. If we’re somewhere really unfamiliar I’ll have both running. The garmin was particularly useless in Norway and was only slightly useful to warn of speed limits.

Put in your actual sizes and make sure the rest of the settings are correctly entered and you will e fine. I own the same model

Use Mapsource or Basecamp, create your own routes.

Make sure you put your weight as over 3.5tonnes as below this the sat nav just behaves as if it is in a car.

We have a 3.5t MH setting the weight over that make all the speed limits wrong and restricts the route where there are weight limits. Sooon set weight back at 3.5t.

The only problem with declaring your weight as over 3.5mt is the sat nav then treats you as a delivery vehicle.

We get waning of 'illegal entry' when entering supermarket car parks and get routed to the delivery doors at the back.

It also warns us when we exceed 50mph on roads where the limit is 60mph

Yes mine does the speed limit thing but I, as should we all, know what the speed limit is for my vehicle. I haven’t had it tell me not to drive into car parks yet though.

We put our exact weight and dimensions in but it makes no difference. The device still takes us up unsuitable roads and into weight restriction areas.
Good luck.

Tried several times to change our weight to get rid of the 50 in a 60 limit sorted. Eventually managed it but the settings still show weight as 3.5 tonnes!

Sometimes (not always) it takes us down narrow roads because that is the only way to get where we have asked it take us. Sometimes it doesn’t want us to go on roads because of a height limit that doesn’t exist. Usually have a map that shows bridge, etc, heights so overrule it. Great feeling of power!

Put in what sizes you are, but check route on map also. If you put in bigger sizes you may just be driving on motorways all the time and go a long way out your way.

Be aware that the device only knows about legal width, height and weight restrictions. It will ONLY avoid these. It doesn't know about narrow or unsuitable roads, unless there is a statutory restriction on them.

Yes many people moan but if the device does not know the suitability of a road, which may be the only way of getting to your destination it will warn you that it doesn't know, its then up you to make a choice.

Many thanks to all your replies. Looks like I might have to try different settings to see which work best.
