Future looks bleak for Go Outdoors

Think they have a strange idea of paying a fiver to then be able to buy stuff in the shop a bit cheaper.
Shame to see anybody to be at risk of losing their jobs though.

Last one I was in was the one next to the Oxford C&CC site. If you pop in there it was dusty, smelly, damp mould spores everywhere from frequent leaks, and a bit like the very early Lidl's when they had that disorganised warehouse look

Sad to see them go, if they actually do fold. Even less competition in the market

I used to use them but rarely do these days. Hate to say it but I find Decathalon a better deal. The branches in France are even better than the UK ones.
Agree with the comment regards Decathlon England and France.
Go in English one and none of the staff will acknowledge you but in the French ones all the staff greet you with a smile and bonjour.

We have one in walking distance and use them a bit, but it is the last of that type in Southampton and is convenient if we don't want shop online. Plus 10% off for C&CC.

I’ve never seen a Decathlon in UK, now I see why ! Maybe they will take over some UK GoOutdoors stores.

If anyone goes to website and brings up the find stores page, you will be asked where you would like to see one, please put Bristol !

Have used them quite often for fishing tackle. With their card and the CCC discount, bought a rod for £30 recently, that was £39.95 - £43.95 elsewhere.
So you can get some good offers there.

Shame - I use them for my Calor bottles. With the C&CC and GO discounts, I only pay about £18 as opposed to £24.
I agree that the Oxford one is grotty but it is probably suffering from the same 'tainted' land as the club site and not worth refurbishing.

Takeover was the start of the decline, seemed like the strategy became a chase for revenue.
A few 'loss leaders' but generally most itms available elsewhere at better prices and stock availability so variable they can never be relied upon to have anything anywhere!

Well, being totally honest, the last 3 times I have been in there ( thats over a period of maybe 5 years) I have asked myself , “why did I waste my time coming in here?”
So if Im not alone, that could be oart of their demise
Apologies to the staff who may now be out of work

Charlies Stores are worth a visit and sell online as well.

We understood that The Oxford CCC site is on land owned by Go Outdoors who have supressed any renovations...it will be interesting.

The c&cc site at Oxford I think is leased from go outdoors. The store property was Touchwoods Garage and the land the site was on was the tip, it was a mess 50 years ago as I remember.

Just Googled Decathlon and there is one in Southampton, I didn't know that. Will have a look next time.we need something. We used to have a Towsure here but that went a few years ago.

Decathlon, I tried them last week, not a single pair of men's walking shoes in size 13 or 14, terrible that.

I use the Oxford GO store quite often and will miss it if it closes. Don't find it as grotty as some on here. I think it is council land, and creating the campsite was a project for a mate when he worked for Oxford City Council years ago. He was quite proud of it at the time Reviews indicate that while site facilities are dated, it still scores highly due to easy access to the historic city centre on foot, by bike or by bus from adjacent park and ride.

Looking at the article it suggests that they are planning a pre-pack insolvency whereas ownership will remain unchanged and the business will continue trading but with lower rents and less debt
Landlords and other creditors are most likely the biggest losers

You can always tell in advance when a store is going down the pan when they stop selling larger clothes sizes. Go Outdoors were great a few years ago when they sold big sizes in most things, then after the takeover they must have thought that everyone had somehow shrunk. Exit my custom and I suspect many other pleasantly plump people.
