I'm a newbie
Hi all,
I have just invested in a Peugot Pilote Reference 680G motorhome but the wife is having difficulty getting in the front passenger door. There is an electric step on the entry door to the motorhome itself and that causes no problem. Has anyone else encountered this problem ? I have manufactured a device consisting of a folding step with a long pole so it can be picked up once in the vehicle but looking for a more permanent solution such as a similar electric step to the one at the rear.
Has anyone fitted a step at the front and if so, what model would be the best to fit?
Regards

DT

I have a Pilote also and also have difficulty with the height there, the rear step is a Thule if I remember correctly and I know that they can be bought for fitment although not something I would attempt myself. I have thought about this many a time and I think that part of the plastic moulding would obviously need to be cut away to fit the step. Good luck with whatever you do and I shall stay interested.
Norman.

My Burstner A class has a hab door and a passenger door which only half opens (no idea why). So we generally use the hab door to get in and out and don’t bother with the passenger door. Hab door has got electric step so no issues.

I looked into installing an electric step to passengers side Lana our old Autotrail FB and you needed to cut a lot of metalwork on the Fiat chassis to install one so I did not bother.😊

As Martin says just use the had door.
Although I have an electric step on my drivers door only ever use the drivers door at fuel stops. Don't have a passenger door so rest of the time we use the hab door.

I used a pole from an old manual carpet sweeper. Bolt through the top of the step with a couple of metal plates then screw the pole onto the bolt. She hasn't tried it yet and is concerned that she may rely to heavily on the pole when getting out. Pole is only really for picking it up from the floor once she is in the vehicle. I will let you know how we get on.

I use the hab door nine times out of ten. I think a re-training schedule is the key.

You can get the steps that automatically retract and open etc but they are heavy and prone to failure as they get hit with all the salt etc from the road.

We just tend to use the Hab door to be honest as others do, I can see why you would want one though.

It may need a cut in the side skirt though and associated wiring. You can get manual ones which are simpler though that somewhat defeats the point as you have to deploy them and stow them once outside.

I also only use the drivers door for fuel stops and it is a pain in the knee to get in and out of. I could use the rear hab door with the step but it will involve a shoes on/off routine that will then perhaps become a pain in the ar$e, compromise is the name of the game. (y)

This thread has reminded me that a couple of months ago I saw an "A" class van with a permanent fixed step at the passenger side. (y)

I've filled the passenger side internal step with a custom plywood storage box. Wife uses the space between her door and seat to store all her stuff - knitting, crochet magazines, tech, etc, and the box just levels the floor area. No-one can use the door so we both use hab door. I'd have preferred no front doors to maximise stowage areas anyway.

It’s a big step up on our Hymer so we only use hab door.

We keep our bottled water supply in our front door well which happens to be offside anyway , we only ever enter / exit from hab door

not sure why some of you use the front door only when refuelling?

We dont use our front (passenger side) door either as the step is so high. There is a toolbox kept on the inside step with our pegs tiedowns and brick hammer.

I made my own cab side steps after not a lot of luck looking for commercially made ones, plus the ones I did find were stupid money.

Thanks for all your responses. I will trial the step with a pole first see how she gets on. Otherwise, shall try to get her to use the hab door at all times.

Because it is right next to the fuel filler, just open the drivers door and hop out. Step comes out when the door opens.

That's not an A Class, A Class if no manufacturers step the sill carries on across the bottom of the door.

So what, it was an example of if you can't find or there is nothing suitable, then make your own to suit your needs, which I'm quite sure you do too ? :whistle2: (y)
Just pointing out it is not as easy on an A Class because of the sill and it would stick out from the body so probably not legal.

We use hab door all the time. Always have done. None of our R-V`s had Driver type doors anyway. You get used to it after a while. As for Tracking debris in. We have a Washable mat in the doorway, when it gets too bad it can be power washed (y) If it got oiled up, it`s not a fortune to replace. BTW, we do the same into the conservatory at home washable mats & power wash periodically.
