Oil Changes old Fiat/Iveco 2.8 TDi Engine 150,000km's

I tend to change my oil at low mileages.

I feel under full load and extremes of temperature, oils tend to "Sheer".

I changed our Fiat oil last year at 145,000 km in August. We have covered 5,500km since through Europe.

I am thinking of changing it again now, Am I going a bit over the top ?

I have a shed full of Quality oil I got cheap too !

I have lots of 'Quality' oil in my shed, been there years, I wouldn't let them near my 'modern' engine.
The cost of the new Synthetic a year, is not worth taking the chance but everyone to their own? 😄

nope regular oil changes is always a good thing you are removing any particulates from the engine

No.

I've had my van 4,5 years & am just about to change for the 10th time. ( I know as I keep all the old 'O' rings . The oil was originally black but is now far clearer & really only just discoloured from the new treacle colour.

Pretty much any mechanic here (the ones i trust) suggest to change oil and filter after each winter as they always tell me that the cold temps have an effect on the oil. These guys know i do it myself so it‘s not that they think it will bring them more business, it‘s just their personal recommendation.

I don‘t bother on my car as i change them frequently but for a long term vehicle like our van then it seems sensible.

Oh and it‘s a lot of fun seeing that warm black oil gushing out of the sump drain 😂

The real question is though……. Basic oil or posh stuff🤔

For those inspired by this thread and thinking I must change my oil , I have just purchased oil from Status Car Care, Salford Manchester (www.statuscarcare.co.uk )
Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2 C3 SAE 0W30 5 litres £40.99 which I think is a bargain price , also available in 1 Litre bottles ( meets Fiat specification) Fiat 955535.GS1 & Fiat 955535.DS1.

I drop my cars oil every 9 months, they do between 8-12k miles pa. One has just passed 80k miles. (not relevant really, but nothing has gone wrong with it either!) I even installed a Stahlbus drain valve https://www.stahlbus.com/products/en/oil-drain-valve/index.php and enlarged the access in the belly pan so I don't need to remove it all the time.

When the warrantly is up on the van, I'll probably do that annually as well.

Opie oils are a great supplier.

I change mine every year… there was a thread running on an ‘aligned’ topic recently and I got royally shut down for suggesting changing annually.

4th year and five changes for me… I thought I was bad but you’re definitely ‘worse’ than me!! 😇🤣

Regardless of vehicle most garages here recommend 15k kilometres & most 'white van man' owner drivers stick rigidly to it.

Hmm? Do I need one of these?

They are handy. I actually fitted it before the 7 year warranty ran out and on the 6th year service the mech came and spoke to me, thought it was a brilliant idea and bought himself one online there and then!

We bought our Landrover Discovery Sport when it was a few months old, we used the main dealers for the servicing at the correct intervals. After 5 years and around only 50 thousand miles we had to have the timing chain, sprockets etc changed as they where knackered, I got a friend of mine to do the work and he was not impressed with the general condition of the components inside the engine or the oil so I will now change the oil every year in all out motors.

But it doesn't replace the important magnet on the original bung which collects any iron filings.
The filings could contaminated the ball and seat as it flows out causing oil to bypass seal.
