just received this in an email When eventually you can visit France again, you should be aware that whilst the EHIC or GHIC cards provide UK visitors to the same medical cover as would apply to a French national, it does not cover medical repatriation, repatriation in the event of death, non-urgent treatment nor mountain rescue costs. French rules now require non-EU visitors to have health insurance that covers medical repatriation & any costs involved in the event of death.also this ....
RADAR CAR BONANZA

The introduction of privatised ‘radar’ cars that record speeding vehicles is proving to be a ‘cash-cow’ for the French government. The French motoring association, the ‘League for the Defence of Drivers’, has calculated that these privately operated cars each earn an average of €194,000/ year for the State – a figure that is 20 times the revenue derived from those operated by the police. The fleet of cars is expected to eventually rise to 450 which would then return an income of 118 million euros/ year. Read the ‘News Blog’ article about these cars.

Just have some decent travel insurance, that will cover it.

Although mountain rescues etc are often under separate policies.

We always have the Red Pennant Insurance from the C&MHC, I thoroughly recommend it. We've met several people in Europe, who've become ill and we've seen first hand how important health insurance is, on top of the GHIC. A couple of years ago my husband was ill in Spain. The support and help from the insurance was brilliant. We called them at 11pm and they couldn't have been more help. It's scary when one of you falls ill abroad, so for me having that cover is invaluable.

Repatriation if you are long term ill
Stroke for instance
GHIC should cover the emergency treatment but at some point you will need transported back home
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to argue the case for not bothering with insurance

Cant one of my lads come down in a tranny and take the coffin back?
Or put the coffin in the van garage and drive the van back?
Erm, not if you are alive and on a ventilator. Not sure what your lads do, but it doesn’t sound like medicine if they drive Transits. :-)

we have always been covered with adac partner plus but not from 30 june when it ceases so we will need to find insurance

I assumed I would be dead by the time I wanted repatriating - hence the coffin.
I assumed the medical insurance would cover curing all my problems in hospital

Think you need a license to carry a dead body in your vehicle ?

Not if you are going to have a long term recovery, you will need family support and if not, it’s still cheaper to fly you back with all the cost than pay for your care abroad.

You might get it cheaper then.

Anaesthetists aren’t renowned for being free though.

Having been flown back after a little accident involving a French Ambulance, then Air Ambulance and a Major Trauma centre, I like to ensure I am covered. :-)

Whilct in the EU if you had no repatriation they were stuck with you until they fixed you. Non eu they ensure have medical cover to include repatriatipon.

Does that apply to France as I read on here that you could marry a dead person there?
