Hi all
I have made my opinions on not been able to get away for weeks and weekends on the MH but.
But we all need to do as we are asked for the greater good all though there is no end in site.
When we picked the MH up on 29-02 it was a very windy day and I thought it was the head wind that was slowing me down.
The one and only weekend was where able to get away after loading up with all the stuff it still just felt very slow and not very responsive.
At the moment it's sitting on the drive with 200 hundred miles on it.
So it was my intention to wait until it's got a thousand miles or so before I make my mind up (run in)
We have bought a Rimor seal 5 on a fiat 2.3 130bhp chassis.
I drive a transit for work with the tools and stock has a kerb weight of 2800kg.
It just feels so much faster with out the need for gearing up and down to much.
I do drive it quite steady within the speed limits and gearing down while braking and it returns about 37mpg all the time.
The MH feels like your up and down the gearbox like a fiddler elbow on the way back it said 16mph on the dash and on the only weekend out got up to 20mpg.
When I picked it up I put £30.00 in it then £50.00 before the weekend not sure how much is in it now.
I guess fiat set all the of the engine management to keep all happy.
But I thing it's just very slow revving when static and sluggish while driving.
I did think it would do more economical so what I am asking can it be mapped as I want to drive it.
Rev faster but still at the same rev limit to get to the desired speed.
It feels a choir to get up to 55-60 while this is fine on a B road it felt like you where pushing it on a motorway.
So I'm after more torque not out right power.
Any thoughts thanks. ?
 
I think you're expecting too much from your motorhome

It'll be 3500kg, powered by the 130 engine and the aerodynamics of house (maybe worse with the over cab area)

Every 130 fiat I test drove felt underpowered, even in PVC, and I knew as soon as I drove the 3litre 160 version that it was the "one", a totally different experience
 
Mine is the same , got no get up and go. Thought perhaps still running in with 7000 miles on clock.
I was spoilt a bit in my last motorhome 3 litre Mercedes Rapido remapped to 224 bhp , now that did go !
 
It'll take 15k miles anyway to get her run in and the MH will be running at near maximum weight.
 
We have a 120 PVC and am very pleased with the performance, handles well, pulls well, need to use gears on some hills but that's what they are for. I don't expect to pull 3.5 tons around and get the performance of a car.

exactly when mine loosened up
 
As WillH says it'll take a good few thousand miles before the engine loosens up.
Be aware remapping the engine could very well invalidate your warranty.

15,000 miles is what Fiat considers to be run in.
Our current van is a 2017 Euro 6, 2.3, 150 hp, at first it was very sluggish compared to our previous Euro 5+ 150. At about 4,000 it started to get better, at 7,000 a lot better and started running nicely once past 10,000 didn't notice much improvement after that until it got past 20,000 runs really well now.

You need to get it properly run in at least 10,000 to 15,000 miles.
 
Nature of the beast I'd say. I have a Ford Transit 2.2 litre diesel based MH which I bought new and heck, was it a slug when I first had it. I hardly ever used 5th gear, let alone 6th as it was so sloooooooow and would not pull the higher gears! Now 20k miles in, it will happily take 5th at 30 mph (on the flat admittedly) and I can change into 6th at 40 mph. Pulling power in the higher gears uphill is a lot better but not outstanding, but hey it's a relatively small engine hauling a heavy load with the aerodynamics of a brick! Since I've had it, I average about 26 mpg which, all things considered, I don't think is too bad; and that's measured tank to tank over the 20k miles.

I did know it would now be fast but I did think it would be quicker than this.
At present running it in is not going to happen.
I did think the mpg would be around 28ish.
Not much chance of doing any European travel for a good few months then I have to ask my self do I want to.
The phased return from lockdown will take sometime to get it right.
Oooor well think positive ?

It does improve as mileage increases and once out of warranty can re map it but if it wlll do 85mph and retue
 
Sorry my bloody big fingers again and return between 25 - 30 mpg you wont be far wrong
 
Give it time..........well it’s miles that it needs.
And once you’ve done a few thousand give it the traditional Italian tune up.

The mileage will go up when it all looses up then l moan about it being too loose?
The Italian tune up that will be a thrashing within an inch of its life?
It's just so slow at revving I mite just have to hold it in the gears just glad I did not opt for an automatic.
I suppose am just having a moan as I'm sick of looking at it and not getting any where in it.
And the weather is so nice is not helping.

everything will improve with miles under the tyres, with mpg and power delivery. Just remember that the cab and underpinnings were designed and produced to be hammered by builders and couriers. But with the weight of a motorhome being right on the limit of it's loading constantly, it would be impossible to "drive it like you stole it". Even though that would help loosen it up quicker
 
What oil do you run? A good quality oil can improve thinks a little.

For all I drive a van for work in is a limited. The fiat is very utilitarian and scarce on spec.
I agree miles on it will sort most of the problems.
Then if not free revving enough can consider a remap of the air flow rather than increasing the pressure on the fuel rail.

On the very short first trip we had resigned our selfs that life in the van would be at a much slower pace.
Most of the time it will be me and the wife but has enough in it to wild stay over if well did not reach the site.
I think as most have said it needs using?
 
Our 2011 Fiat Ducato Moho 2.3 litre don’t know if it’s been remapped just keeps pulling uphills.
It’s quite funny you see the car coming up the hill behind then pull out to overtake (on dual carriageway),
Probably thinking Moho with bikes on the back slow vehicle, we usually potter along around 55mph.
Push the throttle a little and watch them pull back in when they realise they can’t overtake.

Mine's a 2.3, pulls like a train and returns well over 30 MPG. Now done 35K and feels just right.

I collected our Motorhome last October it has the Fiat 2.3 130hp engine and boy did it feel sluggish! I have since only completed 800 mls (due to overseas travel and now the Virus!) but it defiantly felt a bit better even after this low milage. I guess you will have to hang on like the rest of us and when we are finally allowed out then you can go for it!!!

Our last van was a 130hp a class, and like you,I found it painfully slow, after about 6,000 mikes I gave in and out a tuning box on it, which massively improved things, again as the miles built up it also improved again.
You have the same problem with your Rimor as us, a large in aerodynamic vehicle like that really needs at least 150hp.

This is the box I used, gave a worthwhile improvement, not sure it's 170hp as claimed, but much more relaxing and less gear changing up hills, I have since changed to a 180hp engine and they returned and refitted the box to the new van.

Theoretically it should be a simple job to fit, our a class was a pig, access was by feel only, and the connections were not as expected, so i would recommend taking the van to be fitted (free)
 
Hi all sound like what am after.
Just bit of a run to Chelmsford.
I would like some where closer just in case there was a problem.
 
I think they have other places, as you have a coachbuilt access will be easier, on my new van it took them 10 minutes, so if you are confident you could fit yourself.
Other companies do similar, but tdi do seem very professional, and are very good at reusing the same box when you change vehicles.
