Agreed but avoid like the plague in french holidays, it's rammed and prices spiral upwards.Ile de Re is fantastic...made for cycling. loads of good restaurants in the harbour area. Would suggest staying on a site as the island gets very busy !

I can recommend Brittany if you havent been, some cracking sites all round the coast. We haven't got half as far as we planned, due to the fantastic places we have found so far on the coast within 60 miles of St Malo. Thanks to suarvecarve and his Nothernish France Blog, we are at Cleres now. A lovely free Aire (Although the water is currently off), a really nice village with an animal park that is worth a visit.
I was planning on going to the Dordogne this trip but if the weather is up to it, we may spend most of it in the Normandy area.
Speaking to a B&B owner, you may struggle to find a place to park up in the popular areas and expect a lot of roads to be closed close to the towns hosting the main D-Day events. The D Day commemorations are well worth a visit. Virtually the whole of Normandy is involved with lots of events going on at all 5 beaches, Bayeaux, Carantan, Caen and many other towns and villages. There are literally hundreds of WW2 vehicles, museums and a massive simultaneous firework display from the 5 beaches. We will be there from 30th May
There are a couple of places not on the coast that I intend going to anyway.I can recommend Brittany if you havent been, some cracking sites all round the coast. We haven't got half as far as we planned, due to the fantastic places we have found so far on the coast within 60 miles of St Malo.

Only on the 6th due to various services going on. We have a site booked and take our e-bikes and scooter so we are well set up.Speaking to a B&B owner, you may struggle to find a place to park up in the popular areas and expect a lot of roads to be closed close to the towns hosting the main D-Day events.
I always thought it's a horrible place to stay. In 2022 we drove straight through and stayed at a free one at Saint Riviere. If you have bikes, it's a short 2 mile ride back to town.
