I used Parcel Force to send a sizeable box of pressies to Germany recently and there were a few options on offer but the one that caught my eye was 'we can collect it' for the same cost as me trudging it to the Post Office. So I did the collection thing...and wished I hadn't. The bloody declaration form took forever and is far from logical!
Obviously they don't want their staff doing it at the head of a queue - hence the pricing carrot.

Been doing that for years. Family members serving in the military have lived in a number of EU countries (and further afield). Even when posted to a BFPO number custom forms have always been required.
