Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
I popped a post on a few weeks ago about my kitchen tap not turning off on the hot setting.
I'd promised to put a photo of the tap on, but due to a bad back, its taken me all this time to get fit enough to have a look at it,

So a brief description was that the hot tap was running full flow regardless of turning it to the off position. The water is a pressure drop activation, so no micro switches etc.
Some answers suggested that it was a cartridge fitted inside the tap that it needed replacing.

I got to the tap today, took the top off & the tap looks like the type with a rubber washer inside it, kinda like a household tap?

The second problem is that the nut holding the top of the tap on appears very, very tight, so naturally I'm reluctant to force it.

All ideas & suggestions will be very gratefully received.

Nuts on taps are always tight, so I’d not be too concerned about that.

As soon as it starts to turn it should undo easily.

Once the valve is out you should be able to replace the washer and re fit

Hi folks & a very grateful thanks for advice, the help on the forum here is invaluable.

Got the top off the gubbins of the tap & as I'd been told (many thanks to Robert Clark), it was a faulty or worn out washer.
So it was time to blow the thick dust off my plumbing repairs box & dig out a few different sized washers & hey presto, I had one of the correct size.
So in real terms the job was very easy (apart from the tight tap's main nut)

I just repaired our bath tap which wouldn't completely turn ....a slow trickle.
Took the tap apart and it was the washer, deeply grooved on the water side just as in your pic.
Nowhere open at 9pm so I simply turned the washer over.
Nice smooth side should do for the next 12 years

That's what I was going to do if I didn't have the right sized washer, the washer wasn't split, just badly worn on one side.

Glad you got you're bath tap fixed, but now my other half Hazel (Mrsambulancekidd ) is hinting that our kitchen tap isn't too good, might score some brownie points if I fix it though.:wink:

Only if you sort out the paint that has flaked off of Peggy's tap.;)
Then there's a list............:giggle:
