Fly infestation

Van is stored outside , went today to visit to do some jobs . Opened passenger cab door and a few flies fell from above , looking up I saw that the external side of the rubber seal was infested with ? hibernating ? unknown species of flies , drivers side was the same but to a much lesser extent . No flies in the inside of the van at all .
I cleared them all out and cleaned the seals and the seal channel ( there was evidence of their spoil in the seal channel )
What can I do to prevent a recurrence? All ideas gratefully accepted . Thank you .

Good idea, but these are in the door seal on the outside.
They'd work in a loft space etc but not much good in this instance.

Same happens to my friends vehicles of which they have 3 . Same happens to mine when I stop there & I have taken to gassing the door surrounds with fly sprays prior to opening them every day i used the van when there in the spring/summers.

We're in Hawarden near Chester and the house backs on to fields... We seem to have thousands of flies this year and our white car seems to be a magnet for them

I can remember about 20 odd years ago car salesmen would tell you white cars worth less money.

Now they’ve turned it around and charge a premium

Cluster flies, they are not filthy health hazards and not attracted to food and dead animals.

They are simply looking for somewhere warm to overwinter. Try and not park the van in the sun at this time of year. They love sunny walls, Windows, buildings etc.

A quick spray of pesticide deters them, they love getting behind awnings too.

We lifted the ridge tiles in late Autumn years ago to do a loft conversation.

Ive never seen so many flies in one place.

be careful with these as i put one in my shed and it oxidised all metal making everything rusty!! and it makes everything stink ,the one i used was for greenhouse's so maybe this one is not as strong but i would still be wary!!!
