Fitting a Fiat 6speed 2.8JTD gear box to a 2.8IdTd engine (1 Viewer)

Was driving down the road today and wondered if this was a worth while mod and would it be a straight swap out with the existing box possible new gear linkages etc from the newer box given that the JTD is basically the same engine with electronics/common rail injectors

The 2.8 jtd had a 5 speed box. The later model ducatos have a 6 speed box. They are not interchangeable. In fact the addtional gear is a ratio in between the 4th and then very long 5th gear of the jtd box. So 6th on the later box is the same as 5th on the earlier box...

My 2.8jtd has reverse at Left and Up, I think older than 2002 might have reverse at Right and down, if you know what I mean. ;)


Yes, that's correct, I think the ones from the older IDTD gearbox were what gave problems in that 5th kept failing, due it being an add on gear and relied on oil being thrown onto it.

The ones with right and down as you say, gave the problems I think.
