Getting Better
The pull down bed in the hymer, I use a double bed sized fitted sheet but it’s a bit small and curls up the corners a bit.... a king is too big and I’m thinking about a Queen size but there are many different sizes....

Has anyone managed to get some sheets that are a decent fit..?

I have a hymer b544 2012

Thanks..

I googled as I’ve no idea

The King size bed is bigger than the Queen size bed. The king measures 76 inches wide and 80 inches long and the queen measures 60 inches wide and 80 inches long. As you can see this gives king size mattress owners an extra 16 inches of additional sleeping space.

Try Duvalay. They make made to measure bedding so may be able to help.

Didn't bother with the drop down bed as we hardly ever use it but for the rear singles I made them myself (the boss refused to do it). Google making fitted sheets it really is easy to do.

Just bought some from Ebay seller Bedlinen4you11

Not very expensive, seem fine - certainly fit well. You giv e them the exact mattress size and they make to that within 2-3 days. Much cheaper than Duvalay and others,

If you can’t find using the seller name above then search on product description “Made to measure sheets 68 pick polycotton”

It's not just the size (area) of the bed that matters for a fitted sheet, it's also the depth/thickness of the mattress.
We use flat sheets. Much easier to fold after washing.
Haven't found moho beds easy to make though, due to lack of access and mattresses that 'fight back'.

Those appear to be American sizes.
UK has a double, a king, and a super king.

I find fitted sheets are easier to fit on a MH bed as you can 'hook' one end on which keeps it in place whilst you pull the other over.

That always puzzled me...
Ironing and folding something that's going to be covered up and only you are going to see anyway.... Complete waste of time and energy.
Same with ironing underwear and socks.....

Why bother.
I'm pleased to say I have never ironed a single thing in my life

Folding I have done cause it's better than rolling up in a ball ......and often saves ironing:D

Why on earth would anyone even think about ironing socks ....! :Eeek:

If your double fitted sheet is just a bit too small then a Euro double might fit which is what I use in the fixed bed in our adria.

UK double size is 135cm x 190 cm and euro double is 140cm x 200cm. They are available from ikea (you can buy online too if there isn’t a store near you).

Or underwear

Because washing clothes and bedding at 40c does not kill bacteria and pathogens, .. even washing at 60c won't either.. only boiling will do that.. why in days gone by people boiled clothes..

Modern washing powers are great for cleaning but won't kill bacteria unless you add bleach to the water, or boil.

This was why my mother and my wife always ironed the baby clothes..

she still irons sheets and duvet covers for the same reason, doesn't bother with socks and underwear .. but it's not a bad idea if you suffer from any skin disorder. eg. athletes foot..

@Just smiffy

As for the fitted sheet..

We used a standard UK double fitted sheet on the 2001 model Hymer drop-down bed.. it fitted perfectly.. so don't know what size you are using..

B584-I use a standard double fitted sheet from (usually) Dunelm and then two sheet clips across the width and one on the length.
Sheet fits fine and stay in place!

Yep pointless exercise but will she listen to me?
Nope

One thing I should have mentioned earlier about the EBay sheets - the ad is a little misleading, it looks like you can only order to the nearest size. You don’t, you order the nearest then tell them the exact mattress size you have (including the depth) when you order and they make to that size. I’ve found they fit really easily, and for at most £20 (price depends on size - that’s for 7’ square!) it saves a lot of faffing with sheets that don’t quite fit right. Flat sheets I personally find don’t stay put.

Ironing - no, just no! As far as hygiene goes, I work for an industrial laundry business that services most UK hospitals and as far as the microbiological cleanliness goes for them at least, it’s all to do with wash time & temperature and nothing to do with ironing. Yes hospital sheets and pillowcases are ironed (through a giant ironing train - a series of rollers) but that’s for appearance and drying purposes only. Other items used in hospitals, such as patient gowns, staff scrub suits etc are washed in the same way but not ironed and are subject to the same testing standards by most Trusts.

what temperature do they wash at ?

my post was relating to a domestic machine and modern wash powders and liquids that can be used at 40c or even 30c .. not an industrial laundry ..

Ironing - no, just no!

I also gave the reasons my wife ironed baby clothes .. are you disputing that ?

in times past a boiler was used for washing.. usually coal fired.. or later on an electric boiler.. I doubt many households still do that.. nor do they wash at 100c.. I don't know any domestic automatic washing machine that can boil clothes , max temperature on ours is 60c and that won't kill bacteria or pathogens.

Not many will be sending bedding to an industrial laundry for washing..

68 or 73 degrees - but it’s not just temperature, it’s how long it’s exposed to the temperature, a lower temperature for a longer period can do the same job and your washing machine at home has significantly longer programmes than an industrial machine, where it’s all about throughput. The process of washing is basically the same, unsurprisingly!

Don’t take things so personally - ironing, no, just no! was just agreeing with the earlier comments of why bother for items that won’t be seen - and an expression of my personal dislike of a chore that most people also dislike- not any reflection on what others chose to do .

+1 for Dunhelm Mill, we have a standard double fitted sheet on the dropdown bed of our 2006 Hymer b504 and a standard fitted single for the rear bed, both fit perfectly.

Tip, if you get the brushed cotton ones they don't slip and sheet clips aren't needed.

I can certainly confirm the scrubs are not ironed, used to look like I was wearing a shell suit from the 80s' some days. Oh I can also confirm you don't use fabric softer either

Queen size bed is 5ft or about 1.5m wide in the UK. The drop down double in our Hymer is about 1.5m wide and we use a Queen sized fitted sheet on it.

And where do you get them peter ? I’ve not seen any in the shops.... and I do like a good thread count cotton sheet.....
