Has anyone had problems with a fiat ducato cambelt jumping 3teeth on camshaft resulting in big bill

No. Was the belt ‘up to date’?
I believe it needs doing every 5 years irrespective of mileage

A bit more detail would help. Engine, age, miles, cam belt replacement history.
There are geniuses on here but they need more info.

We need more details. Are you trying to warn others?

have heard of cases where water ingress into engine bay in freezing conditions ice can form on the belt and cause it to jump or break engine repairers next door to where i work have an autotrail with that problem in at the moment

I went to start after the snow wouldn't start didn't sound right
called recovery they said camshaft sensor had that replaced no good after four attempts to get vehicle out of yard it was then dropped off at fiats bury at Edmunds they then told me I would have to collect to big for workshop .I then had to pay to have it recovered to Thetford who could cope they have told me it jumped teeth resulting in £4213 bill fiat customer service won't help me coz have not been fiat maintained even though had service every year the vehicle is 16 plate with 11k on clock

Probably some water on the cam belt and was frozen. I've heard of that happening a couple of times, more likely if it hasn't got the plastic engine cover.

I think water got on to cambelt and froze resulting in problem I have been checking up on this and it's a problem with ducatos water down shuttle panel into engine

Fiat customer service in Italy not one in UK said I should of had belt replaced after4 years

That’s worrying...I have a Ducato based 2011 Burstner i810 and belt questions were the first I asked before buying, and was told they have chains not belts so no need to worry. Maybe this differs for different models/ages?

Only the 3 Lt has a chain.

Shouldn't happen on an A Class it doesn't have the standard scuttle.

If its a 2.2 litre it is chain driven.

I had what sounds like a similar problem with a van I was just about to buy from a dealer and got some really helpful replies when I asked the forum for advice. It was a 2.3 Ducato, 2021

not done this before but I’ve copied the link below hopefully this might take you to my post as it might be of help to you - I’m sure someone will advise if I have done this incorrectly!!

No but it does not surprise me because, when they change the cam belt and tensioner, they put the old tensioner stud back because a new one is not supplied in the belt kit?
I renew this stud as it has had just as much work as the tensioner. Always insist upon it being replaced!

Had the tensioner bolts snap luckily garage accepted responsibility as only a few hundred miles since replacing
