So read up and had email about dogs visit to vet. But if ferry was delayed and the 120hrs ran out. So dog needded to visit vet again. How soon after one tablet could the dog have another one?
Yes I know the ferry wont be delayed and am over thinking. Well that's what the wife says.

Stop over thinking things, you will have a heart attack. Your supposed to be enjoying life.?

The treatment must have been given no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours prior to your crossing. Just don't book your dog in until you're pretty sure of the date of the crossing. We usually have our hound wormed 24 hrs before crossing.

We had to get our dog re-wormed on our return last time because the stupid vet in Germany didn't record the relevant info in our dog's passport. We had another wormer the next day - so 48 hrs after the first wormer. I checked with the vet before the wormer was given that it wouldn't have any ill effects and he said it was fine.

The last time i got it done in Germany vet filled out paper work charged 10 euro i think and sent us on our way. We took our own tablets.

We had hell on at Bilbao, having missed ferry by 20 minutes through breakdowns we needed to get the Tablet and passport sorted again the Vet insisted you had to wait 10 days between Tablets as they are dangerous if overdosed ,therefore,he couldn’t fulfill the correct disciplines in order to issue/stamp the Passport after much begging and conniving we got him to complete it.
In conclusion here’s were DEFRA ARE A WASTE OF SPACE, incidents occur when travelling and it’s likely that often people will miss booked times by minutes/hours/days often with a Pet Passport that needs fulfilling again and yet they don’t know or care that the Tablet should not be taken again for 10 days.
Would they expect people to wait around for 10days, people that have to return to work, people that might not have funds for Hotels,Campsites pay for food etc etc.
The system has never been for for purpose.

Change your glass for one that’s half full get rid of the half empty one,

Think to yourself. Has your worrying ever changed anything? If it has keep the glass, and I am wrong

I think it must vary from vet to vet as our dog was re-wormed a day or so after the dose given in Germany (my post above gives reason). I asked specifically if it would harm our hound and was told that it wouldn't. He had the wormer and didn't have any after effects.

With regard to being late by a few minutes... can I ask why you didn't get your dog wormed the day before and then you'd have plenty of leeway if delayed at the ferry?

We use Drontal for worming.
This leaflet https://www.vetsend.co.uk/files/pdf/leaflet-drontal-dog-2.pdf
suggests that Drontal is well tolerated in dogs and that even a five times overdose may only result in vomiting. So, it should be safe enough giving a repeat dose if you need to comply with the regulations for entry to the UK, but your vet would be able to confirm this.

When the rules required treatment between 24 and 48 hours before travel our French Vet used to ask us what date we wanted on the Certificate as he felt the tablet was good for at least two weeks after treatment.

With the new, wider, window for travel the situation is not so critical. We usually have our dogtreated in Burgundy, give her 24 hours to get over any possible ill effects, then travel to Calais over two days.

We broke down 5 times in a brand new MH, less than 2000 miles on clock,I’m not a bloody idiot.

no, but you’re rude!
I responded to an experience I had regarding the Tablet issue as guidance to the OP’s original enquiry you then going off topic inferring I don’t organise my journey correctly what do you expect. Your comment didn’t assist the OP I hope mine did.

I responded in post 3 to the OP's post.

I was not inferring that you didn't organise your journey - I was simply asking a question. I had no idea you'd had such horrendous problems with your new vehicle.

I wasn't going off topic at all. I took the time to respond to yours regarding your issue at the vet when he insisted on a 10 day wait. I thought, obviously misguidedly, that you might be interested to know that we'd had a similar issue as you, albeit for another reason. I thought it might assist folk who perhaps may come up against the 10 day wait that not all vets agree. I asked about overdosing specifically and was told that it definitely wouldn't harm our dog to have the second tablet - this turned out to be the case.

Wouldnt it be funny if Southdowners was a MH dealer and you bought it from him.
Sorry, not funny. Just my sick sense of humour.

Sorry to disappoint... I'm neither a man nor a dealer :giggle:

Definitely a woman, has to have the last word! ?

I was posting in direct reply to Little wheels. If you wish to make an intelligent response to my post then feel free... though somehow I doubt it

We had experience in Bilbao, where our time had ran out. But we were sailing the next day.
So we were sent to a nearby vet, who said to have another tablet would make the dog sick.
So she charged us 28euro and stamped the passport and sent us on our way with no tablet.
