We are trying to work out a trip to Extremadura later this year, traveling down through France and then following the Spanish/Portuguese border back up to Santiago de Compostela, then back home through France.
The area of Extremadura Is a new area for us and just wondered if any one that has toured there or the the Spanish/Portuguese borders has any information/recommendations for touring in that area, places to see, places to stay (aires/campsites) etc

There is a good aire at Palencia showers and electric if you want it and all they ask is that you fill with fuel at their fuel station across the roadšŸ˜Š

Be careful in Trujillo / we followed the sign for car park and got well snd truly stuck in a one way system because the wheelbase was too long to turn sharp left

Trujillo is well worth a visit with loads of history with it been the home of Pizarro the conquistador. There is an aire at the bottom of the hill next to the bullring. Extramadura is considered one of the best bird watching areas in Europe and is a birders paradise.

Decent aire in Merida and the Roman amphitheatre, coloseum and museum there are amazing. Well worth a visit.

If you're planning to cross over into Portugal, might be worth investigating a Bip n Drive transponder for motorway tolls. Much less hassle than trying to set up a toll account when you get into Portugal. Also works in Spain and France, very convenient and not expensive to buy.

We travelled through the area on the way back up from the South in November. Really beautiful with some fascinating cities-Caceres and Merida in particular. We stayed on a campsite in Palencia then drove up the Jerte valley and onwards to Avila. We saw no other English motorhomes whilst there. We definitely plan another trip concentrating on the Extramadura-go for it!

Trujillo is quite compact. In May storks are delivering their own babies rather than their usual baby delivery service ...

Have also done Badajoz and Caceres. Both plenty to see.

Avila, Toledo and Aranjuez were also superb to visit ..

Can't remember where we stayed even though it was only 2018!

Thanks everyone for the replies, we are slowly hatching a plan but as usual with us the plan will change daily. Book ferry and head in the general direction of Extremadura and visit as many places as possible. Looing forward to our tour this year because we have not been over since 2019.
