Went out to the motorhome to take it for a drive and notice that the dash reading of the air temperature varied from 16c to 20c even though it was about 5c outside! I understand that this is probably a fault sensor (van is 9 years young!). I have read a few threads on this problem and know where to get a sensor if required.

It is a Rapido A class so will start hunting for the sensor location. I read somewhere that the sensor may be fine but needs reset – no idea how. Any thought on how to resolve this would be welcome.

Thanks in advance

If it is any help , when I had the same fault I replaced the air temperature sensor fitted on the mirror of my 2015 Peugeot panel van with an e-bay purchased one and it worked without needing anything being reset.
Resources , in the menu , has information that may help locate your sensor in section 3.29 of The 2016 Converters Manual that can be found on page 3 of Manuals for Motorhome stuff

Sensor on my Rapidio a class is under the front right bumper on the inside of front right wheel. Found it last week when I was having tyres changed.

My Hymer one overreads by about 4 degrees. I believe it is mounted inside the offside mirror but I don’t know how to access/replace it.

My Hymer A Class it’s mounted as Ed Pirates is.

This thread might help.

Similar to GeoffnDee, I had this on a 2016 Peugeot Boxer PVC.

Sensor was at the bottom of the drivers' mirror. Apparently very common fault on this vehicle because of how water runs off the mirror case directly down to the small protruding knob containing the 'gubbins' (technical term ☺️).

Never bothered to fix it but I did check into having it done - dismantle mirror and either remove sensor, clean & dry it and re-seal or fit a new one.

Think I will try disconnecting the battery first as the sensor is reading 17c and see if that makes a difference. Have ordet a sensor off eBay for £10.00 as belt and braces! Will keep people updated.

Have also sent an email to Rapido asking for the location of the sensor. I'll be interested to see what the reponse is.

Hedgewitch , I must admit that I did not replace the sensor in its original door mirror position , I cut the wiring to it and joined the replacement sensor wiring on to it , the sensor now lives inside the door panel and it seems to be happy in its new home.

We had this issue on our 2012 Peugeot based Bailey. Cured it by simply undoing the cab battery negative lead and leaving it for an hour. When reconnected, temperature recorded correctly and, touch wood, problem hasn't reoccured. May be worth trying before messing with sensors etc.

I have read of this elsewhere as a successful option. Though on the A class the connector position would be handy.

Just heard back from Rapido and as people said it is on the front cross member. The response is below, good to have it confirmed and that Rapido respond! Now to go and find it!

"The external air temperature is located on the cross member at the front bumper".

I have been following a thread on battery replacement and very conscious of airbag ECUs failing etc so don't want to tempt fate. It has been suggested that disconnecting the negative side of the starter battery and leaving it for an hour is worth doing as this sometimes resets the sensor. There is still a reading just not the correct one! Any thoughts?

I have bought a new sensor so the other option is to just replace it if I can find it!

It worked for me, mine was wrong even after replacement, been fine since I disconnected the battery and reconnected.

Not been able to find my temperature sensor on our N & B Arto 88 of 2014 vintage. It’s not in either door mirror!

Any ideas anyone?

As above, could be anywhere but usually on the front cross member.

Googlebot when you disconnected the battery did you follow any 'special' procedure? I'm quite cautious!

No, just disconnected, had a brew and put it back. In fact, I think I turned the key to make sure the electronics were empty of charge.

So found the temperature sensor as had been stated on the front RHS bumper member. Had to open a hatch in the wheel arch to see it. Not sure I can change it with out removing the front wheel though. It is going in for a wheels off service so may ask the garage to sort it. I'll try the battery disconnect first though

If you have a Peugeot (and possibly Citroen?) with a faulty outside air temperature sensor, please be aware that believe it or not, this can affect the regeneration cycle on the DPF.

So guys tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery but the temperature is still reading 28 degrees - I wish! So replacement it is.

My question is how would you connect the new sensor to the old wiring? I have some Wago 221 connectors but not sure if the sensor wires are too thin. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I would trace it back the best you can to see if there is a plug. If no plug then personally I would connect, check and then solder ( with heatshrink) I know this is sometimes frowned upon but 🤷🏻‍♂️. Or strip back a fair bit of insulation, double or treble fold it and use your connectors. Just make sure its waterproof.

I believe that It will depend on the engine fitted and year , my 2015 Peugeot with a 2.2 engine was not effected by the faulty sensor

Shandyman All I can do is send you ebay links. I have bought an ebay sensor and will just connect it to the exsting wiring as per others. There is a fiat part number in the link below. (The part number is the last series of digits.) You should be able to get a genuine part from FIAT with that number.

Scroll down the ebay page there are loads! Good luck!

Well success! The motorhome was in for a service with Logan Vehicle Services, who I can highly recommend, where was it was fitted in double quick time. I have now have the correct temperature! This was one of the many thermistors you can buy on eBay.
