Exploring the Possibility: Emigrating to France

Thanks. Really helpful. I will respond more fully when not on phone
Is it your intention to sell up and move out there permanently ?
If you step off the property ladder in Stamford Bridge, then decide to return, prices will have gone through the roof. Conversely if you have purchased ‘dans la France’, and decide to sell, you might be waiting till ‘les vaches rentrent à la maison’ for a buyer. 🤞

Funny how so few Europeans come here "looking for a better life".
They used to,, Poles,Spanish Portugese etc and more Greek Cypriots live in London than Cyprus.BUSBY.

But for infrastructure, schools, hospitals adffordable housing, we're seriously overcrowded
And that surely, is the actual meaning of the word "overcrowded". I.E having more people in any given situation than can be accommodated. Until the infrastructure can be improved to a tolerable level, adding more and more people - ad infinitum - to this country is just insane.

But it's also equally insane to see a steady change in population and not plan services accordingly. The really big change in migrant numbers is very recent increases in waiting lists have been increasing a lot longer and they do form a very small proportion of the population.

The French do make decent omelettes.

Credit where it’s due.

Totally crap at anything else though:rolleyes:

If you want to see what real overcrowding looks like you have to go to NL or one of the other overpopulated countries in the world, there is plenty of space in the UK but not enough services, this is a deliberate political choice, healthcare, policing , education , transport, utilities are all set up to fail with cuts cuts and more cuts, all so the privatising agenda can be pushed and the rich can enrich themselves a bit more ……

Frogs legs yes, snails no.

Bloody weird.
You can pick them up in the freezer section in the supermarket. The thing that used to impress me was fresh seafood in ski resorts at Christmas miles from the sea. I must admit that the snails were a bit like a rubbery snot in garlic!

Excellent!
I wish more people were aware of their older days in a foreign country. Without language skills, it can be tough indeed.
All you said was well pointed out Widge !
I only hope that our language skills won't let us down, certainly they are nowhere as good as they should be after 17 years, and it is amazing how covid had a big effect as we were obviously not socializing, and keeping our selves to ourselves, we are both English and do have English TV, although we do also watch French TV, and certainly all the French dramas on channel4.

Both my wife and I have just been through cancer treatment at Guy's Hospital. I also inject a very expensive drug once a week for the last ten years courtesy of the NHS. I would not move out of London let alone move to France. When the s&£t hits the fan health wise things take on a completely different look!
When the NHS works, it works well, sadly these days it appears to be failing in too many ways, recently a good friends brother-in-law was dying from cancer in hospital, it was over the last bank holiday, he was in terrible pain, and the family were told, we cannot give palliative care and morphine, because it is a bank holiday, and we do not have any staff authorized to administer morphine until Tuesday, luckily the guys' daughter knew someone in authority in a different hospital, who managed to make a few calls, and the staff were forced to call someone in. how can you not have somebody at least on call in that situation.

As far as French healthcare I can only speak on my experience in this area over the last 17 years, and yes the quality is going down like in every country due to costs and the older population, but I cannot fault it with very few minor exceptions.

Very true, the property market is not the same as the UK by any means, the cost of buying is quite high, fees can be very expensive, likewise estate agent fees are also expensive when trying to sell.

Another small tip, if you do decide to take the plunge, cars are expensive here, it might be worth keeping your eye open for a suitable LHD vehicle in the UK, preferably french registered, there is usualy a couple on eBay or autotrader, but even a english registered LHD is worth considering as long as it is european spec and newer that 15 years old, re-registration shouldn't be too much hassle, since B***t you have to pay import duty, but that shouldn't be too bad especialy if you can get the seller to give you low value receipt, and I think if you have owned it for over a certain time and are moving perminantly you dont have to pay the tax.

If you are on the french health system, your treatment would have probably also been free.
