Got a "intimidating" letter today off "contractum int debt collection"about a Vignette that I am supposed to not of had to use Hungary motorways back in May.They work for EPC who originally sent fines and who I sent copies of the Vignette which covers the dates of m/way use.I am annoyed that I am still getting agro off them when I have proved that I have paid.I am willing to go to court if needed but why the hastle? Anyone experienced this with EPC?

If you're certain your correct and have been wrongly accused, I'd write / email one last time with details and copies of vignette then ignore everything afterwards.
Keep copies of everything, just on case.
Are EPC a Hungarian organisation ?

Don't forget to add as it is their fault you are charging them for your time in dealing with them, £60 an hour would be a fair rate. Attach the first invoice.

Don't know if this will work for you, but it certainly helped when my sister was targeted by Loan sharks and Debt Collectors WHEN she had Alzimers, they kept renewing the "loan" £100, after she'd paid it off , telling her it was "cash back" How in the hell they got her to take out the first loan no one knows because she was financially secure any way.

State your case ie you have already paid and you have proof.
Then state you will take action, if they still bother you, and quote;

"Any contact could be committing a criminal offence under section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970and/or under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 !"

As the first paragraph, we used it, it worked!

Eternal thanks to @ShiftZZ For giving us the link.

Motorhome Fun is not just about M/HOMES, if you have a problem no matter what! There is always someone here that has the answer!

Have found their correct e-mail address (not easy ) and sent e-mail to them quoting the above--will let you know if I hear from them again---never did like bullies.Found an old piece about them on a Martin Lewis site same problem as me.Might be more of this type of problem after Brexit!

I'm curious to know why you think brexit would make this worse?

I had a problem with a mobile phone contract many years ago. When I was contacted the first time by debt collectors I sent them copies of the contract and letter of explanation and an offer to go to court, heard nothing for months, then it all started again so I ignored it. I received several threatening letters over the next year or two. Eventually they gave up . Debt collectors just keep sending letters in the hope you will be intimidated and pay up so the letters will stop. My advice is to put all their letters in the bin unless it is from the court.

I had letters from a debt company that had bought a list from NatWest. I had a loan that went to court but I paid in full.

I sent proof to debt company but they weren’t interested and kept threatening me with Bankruptcy. I considered this an idle threat as I had proof that it had been settled but just in case I applied to the court to have Bankruptcy “set aside” the court contacted debt company and set a date for a hearing on my behalf. On the day I met a very nice Judge in a small side room and guess what, nobody else turned up so we had a quick chat and he authorised the setting aside of the Bankruptcy before it had even started.

They didn’t bother to send me anymore threatening letters after that.

I would say that is calling their bluff and playing them at their own game - very satisfying

That is classed as Harassment and is illegal! Shouldn't have to "ignore" bullying letters.

Couldn't you of claimed expenses and compensation off them-they shouldn't get away with it.

Because I think some countries have taken offence with us leaving EU and might leave us open to scammers like "debt collectors" .

EPC issue the fines for most EU countries and Contractum is a offshoot company (same address and directors) that is a debt collector passed on when EPC don't gat their cash off you .Both try to bully you into paying !

My other halfs old mum got threatened with a parking ticket after having parked at a retail park. They just didn't give up... after doing some research, only police officers and traffic wardens can issue parking tickets. We told the collection company that we weren't paying and were happy to go to court. Never heard another thing...

“Parking eye” have recently and successfully taken a case to court and will pursue cases now that there is now a precedent. Ignore at your peril nowadays

A quick google will tell you that Hungary are in major dispute with the EU and have been for some time. Try searching the Rome Warsaw pact.

I recently had a parking charge notice from M/Way service area for overstay parking . I had entered and shortly after left . I then had gone back in about 3 hours later and left shortly after again .
I told them to recheck their cctv , They sent a nice letter saying the charge notice had been withdrawn :)

I got a notice for overstaying at Sterling services (Moto), pulled in at 2:45am and left at about 6:00am. Told them to take it up with Traffic Scotland as I'd passed a large sign saying 'tiredness can kill, take a break'. Told me the fine had been dropped....

Problem is many are operating outside the Jurisdiction so not subject to Law of England and Wales

Inside or outside the law still applies. Where ever they are based, if you are in the UK then you are protected by UK Law.
