Just bought this fan (think it was the last one in the country!!) and I would like to be able to power it from one of 240v sockets near to where we sit in the hab lounge i.e. NOT the 12V cigarette lighter socket in the cab. I think this is what I need to be able to do this - seems simple and cheap - am I missing something? Don't want to cause a fire in our bran new van. Thanks.

Why not buy a 240v fan?
Because we don't have an inverter and we want to run the fan when we're not on EHU.
We bought the fan 'cos it's 12V but, if we are on hook up we would like to run it from the 240V socket.

It says the output is only 500 milliamps which isn't enough. I recently bought one of these so we could run ours in the house during the recent hot weather.
Amazon product ASIN B00PUNIEI2But if you are on EHU just run it on 12 volts, assuming you have the right sockets in the hab area.

If you don't have a hookup then you can't use your fan or when travelling along if you use a mains socket like that.

We don't, hence looking for a 240V -> 12V adapter.
How about fitting a 12v socket in the lounge area?
Brand new van - don't want to mess with it at all.
Just want an adapter to plug into 240V socket which will run the 12V fan.
So I'm still not sure what the answer is to my question.

500ma (0.5amp) ain't enough for any decent 12v fan.

Endless breeze Fan amperage is 1.2amps to 2.6amps depending on speed setting.

When on hook up the charger will replenish the leisure battery as you use power for the fan.
So makes sense just to use a 12v socket if you have one...

Or spend the £8 towards putting a 12v socket where you need it, I assume in the habitation area..

OR this looks the same for £1.99 !!! :)

And for more powers... 5 amps

No local socket and doesn't want to mod New van Steve.
I find it hard to understand why a new van hasn't got at least one 12v outlet in the hab area.

Just run it from a 12v socket, when you're plugged in to ehu the mains charger will put more in than the fan will take out so effectively you are running it from ehu via the mains charger and leisure batteries.

I would bite the bullet and get some twelve volt sockets in the hab area , no need for converters or anything else, you will find you need them for all sorts of things , we have six in ours and still use them all , and the 240 v doesn't come in to it, because your hab charger will be converting it for you when on hookup.

And I would add some USB sockets as well. You can get adaptors which fit into cigar lighter sockets but a dedicated USB socket is much more convenient, especially if you want to charge things on the move, as the adapters tend to fall out. I've fitted three double USB sockets and plan on adding a fourth so there is one in every corner. I've also added a din socket to run our compressor cool box as it provides a more secure connection than a cigar socket I've found.

In the hab area the van has 2 x 240V, 2 x USB and 1 x 12V. The TV is plugged into the 12V socket. So maybe the easiest answer without doing any mods is this. Would this power both the TV and the fan at the same time?

Why not wire the TV permantly, you will probably find there is wiring in place for it.
