Dethleffs Trend
My Dethleffs has a warning buzzer that sounds if I leave the steps out and start the engine.

Does anyone know of a similar device - or maybe a simple circuit - to warn that the EHU is still attached if the engine is started?

I know that the Mark 1 eyeball is best but, we all forget. I note, from comments on this site, that driving off whilst hooked up happens frequently...

Not quite the same but electric cars won't let you drive when connected for charging. I would also like to know of such device. Never done it yet but as I park at the rear of my house and am sometimes but not always connected I have to think twice and twice again. I have been known to start the engine to reverse out, look in my mirror and see the cable still attached.

Some vans have this buried in the control unit options. (CBE?)
It would be easy to build something and connect it up at the back of the fridge (where mains and ignition signals are readily available).

I'm sure Lenny HB would suggest something like a relay from the ignition switch connected to a buzzer switched by the current from the hook up, but what do I know?
My friend/neighbor did it I'll ask what he did, I think he just fitted a relay with a buzzer.

I've got one one my autotrail apache 700 as its the same alarm as the step which confused me greatly as I could see the step was in but I didn't notice the bright orange lead hanging out the side of the van 🤦🏾‍♂️🙄

Buzzer would be quiet simple at the vans 12v power supply, you have a 12v out to say it’s on 240 and a D+ Usually.

Keep it simple……. Buy one of these (available from most Caravan/MoHo Accessory Shops)…….. Use to store cable and when deployed simply hang over your gearstick. Well, works for me!

Walk round the m/home with eyes open, looking for open cupboards, trailing leads, running water, open windows and a quick internal check that skylights are closed firmly. Then a quick swear and unbutton the seatbelt because I've forgotten to fold the wing mirrors out ...

On another thread about this two of us said we always do a walk-around check before starting because we can pick up on other things than the EHU e.g windows not shut and latched, lockers not secure, water cap left at service point, diesel cap tyre needing air etc. Then anything left on the ground.

I always double check the step is in via the wing mirror from the driving seat.

You cannot cover all those with a buzzer or similar.

That was me, but when I also got one for air-rides and anther for jack's it sort of became a bit silly.
I had a 'Departure Checklist' on my phone for the Folding Caravan after we lost a rooflight on the AP7 in Spain. The resultant vortex caused the VW Tiguan rear n/side wheel to lift before the ESP and Towing Control intervened! The List seems to have been binned when I changed my phone, but it's probably best to resurrect it; the rooflight loss resulted from being distracted during packdown, but the momentary lack of concentration and/or Senior Moment [aka C.R.A.F.T. moment] and the risk of expensive damage/repairs/injury make it a decent 30 seconds of time taken to check the List

Our AT Frontier has a warning buzzer as well when connected to 230v power. Doesn't tell you that you've disconnected from the bollard but the cable is still connected to the motorhome though!xroll: Hence the reason we both do a walk round and have a shared ToDo list on our mobiles.:xThumb:

I leave the To Do Lists to Yvette, then there is only one person to blame if anything is missed or left behind. (y) :whistle2:
Dangerous option!:xeek:

She might miss the task of "Other half onboard"!!!!!:xrofl:

I coil my lead for storage with a velcro strap. When EHU deployed the velcro gets tied onto the steering wheel.

Now if someone could find a suitable warning method so before driving off I've latched all the cupboard drawers, doors etc so those don't disgorge their contents .....

Yep me too after thinking about it and that's what my mate did.
He put it in a plastic box with a lead and just plugs it into a mains socket, only problem with that is if you forget to plug it in.
But if yo

Can you do one, (NO! NOT 'Do One') that would replicate the Mk2 version of 'Putting the Step in' that we had on the previous van.

It retracted the step on switching on the Ignition. All we have on our present van is non too indicative light on the dash.

TIA.

You simply replace the switch you use at the minute to put the step in with a 12v relay contacts and wire the coil to the accessory ignition. Or you can leave the switch in and wire the relay contacts in parallel 🤔
Having said that I don't know anything about retracting steps so take it with a pinch of salt 😆
Lenny will know 👍

I was always forgetting to turn the gas off so we had a tiny teddy bear (size of an egg) and put it in the gas locker. If ted was upfront on the dash then the gas was off. Cheap and functional.

Our Hymer has an alarm to say the mains is still connected 👍

Trouble is, our solar was added after purchase abd not run through the controller, on a sunny day, even when hook up lead disconnected the controller still alarms, it appears to think the 13.5 volts could only be achieved via mains 🤔

You may fix one issue and create another 😁

I refer the couple to the comment I made to another Funster, some days ago, viz

You lost me at, "YOU SIMPLY PUT???"
But thanks, anyway!
