I have an EE MiFi mini coming to the end of a contract. Has anyone tried to put a phone sim in one? A data sim is a lot more expensive for a lot less data.

If you've had it around eighteen months they will unlock it for free. Just did it and my Three phone sim gets me onto T'internet ok.
I got unlimited data , mins , and texts fom Three ,sim only , for £20 per month. Deal was spoken about on here about three weeks ago , might stil have it.

Can you just make a WiFi hot spot with the phone?

most of the phone companies detect if a phone sim is used in a mifi and disconnect it

Tried it with a 3 MiFi and it wouldn't accept it.

It's down to the SIM and the contract, now days most companies allow phone Sims to be used in mifi's but you won't know until you try. My Plusnet phone SIM on EE works ok in my MiFi.

Thanks for all that. Great help. I'll try a phone but you have to fiddle with the settings to keep it from going to sleep and cutting you off. Btw, In Scotland 3 is a waste of time unless you are in one of the bigger cities.
