Over many yrs I have stopped at texaco mannekensvere service area on A18 , 1 hr from Calais Last September all trucks banned from parking overnite also at jabbeke service area . Now they have fencing and razor wire protecting the area . Last nite I was just parked there for a hour and I parked right up against the motorway not in the ‘quiet area ‘ I was off guard and forgot to lock mh whilst I was inside listening to radio I dozed off ? Then I felt the mh ‘ move ‘ thinking someone hit it BUT it was an illegal opening the rear doors !!!! I gave him a few verbals and he ran off , so beware they are around 1 hr from Calais the trucks moved on !!!!!

I have met a few coming off the back of lorries. All are desperate, none are in great spirits and certainly none are coming to the UK for a great time. I can say all have been polite and grateful.

Dumping them on a beach is so 1939......

Whilst travelling through Europe we've seen lorries with notices on the back saying 'We do not travel to the UK'.

Obviously a lorry going elsewhere doesn't have the same attraction! I wonder why???

No In 1939. Those on the beach where being Shot at by Merlels Mob!. We had 2 family members left behind, On who escaped died, later.

Have to agree, I've met and chatted to hundreds of economic migrants. Some of them number as the bravest people I ever met.

According to a report on "tinternet" the Greek Government are unhappy with the camps as they exist. One of the "arguments" being that they are too "open" an therefore the Greeks cannot keep track of JUST who is there at any one time. So they proposed to create "proper" camps with facilities, and Security

The usual suspects are complaining about "immigrants" "uman rites" being breached. No one is interested that the Greeks are being inundated with Crime and Trafficking on the increase.

Lets face it, NO one in the UK has a clue just how many "illegals" are actually here either, those known about are likely just the tip of the iceberg.

Before the P-C brigade get on their high horse about it. It is worth remembering that during the days of mass immigration to the USA. Vast numbers where held and checked and quarantined on Ellis Island. Most eventually where allowed ashore. But many too where weeded out for a variety of reasons including Health, or disease and known criminal activity. It was only closed if I recall in the 1920`s? if not later.

However it is "managed" it is a fact that something needs to happen, and soon, Or this small island will probably sink.

They need to be discouraged from coming, being rescued is a tactic, a desperate one, but one that works. There isn't a simple solution, but the ultimate answer has to involve their home countries. Otherwise, Western Europe will not cope with the millions that will come.

Slightly "off Topic". But anyone remember back in the 70`s or maybe 80`s. A "docu drama" type programme on t-v that dealt roughly with this scenario.? I seem to think it was based on the fact that the Sahara had virtually reached the Med coast. and there people where coming over in droves?.

IMV it`s the only answer. We have to be hard or the UK will become as 3rd world as they left, just colder.

I think language has a lot to do with it. I've met a few here in France and although they are getting good support here, they would rather go to England because they speak the language.

The government has despatched migrants all over the country, sometimes to quite small communes, and they find it hard to integrate especially in some of the very rural communities which aren't used to 'foreigners' - i.e. anyone born further than 10km away. So England - their idea of England - where they know the language too feels like a safer option. Let's face it, a lot of Brits move to France have trouble integrating so it's not surprising if these people do with all their added problems and worries.

Just to make things worse, I gather that a local centre in a small village which was doing really good work has now been closed and everyone from similar centres around the region is now being moved into a large rundown former budget hotel miles from anywhere on the edge of a large anonymous town (oh, except it is right next door to a huge lorry park...)
