Well,

Given the number of comments re time taken to renew your C1/C1E licence, made the effort to send the completed forms in after the 90 day and before the 56 day application dates.

Posted the forms on Monday the 24th Jan, checked signed for on the 25th.

New licence in the post this morning. 7 days from posting to receiving,

Well done DVLA.

I have to renew this year, I don't need C1 but I'm wondering if I should keep it anyway in case I need it in the future.🤔
For the sake of 55 quid for a medical I would keep it.
Best thing we ever did getting a van with loads of payload.

Hi.
GET IT. You will never know when you may need it. " Smaller/Bigger ? " This applies to lorries as well.
" What will carry a lot, will carry a little ". NOT the other way around. (y) Best of luck.

I suspended my HGV1, PSV AND my C1 a few years ago after the DVLA told me that, as long as I passed the medical, I could reclaim ALL of them but as I was over 70yrs, it would be on a one year basis.
Has anyone had experience of trying to reclaim??

"Damelza" claimed his C1 back at 73yrs+ and he got three yrs. on his licence.

Just been up to the office and spoke to delightful Carina.
Tavira is full every day at 5pm.

Best time turn up is 10.00am. You can park outside.
Best day to turn up is Monday.

You can renew it later, but then you might be waiting, as now, to get the licence at a time when you are trying to buy >3.5t and cannot drive it.

My advice would be to renew now.

Similar but different SWMBO has got PIP Mobility and so gets free road tax
Now we have a 2017- 998cc Toyota Aygo with VED at £155 a year so applied in November for the refund took them until this morning to sent the VED back - ALL of it too

Note if we had a 2016 plate car it would have been £0 to start with

I don't need mine with the current van but applied to renew the C1 anyway, £55 for D4 drivers ,so cheap enough. Problem is the application went in early August ,treadmill a couple of weeks ago and still no licence . :(

But Carina IS!!! delightful?!

Don’t know how this works, but if you keep the C1 and you get stopped by the rozzers and weighd in at above 3.5 T you could be charged with being overweight, but not for, not having the appropriate license if you had dropped your C1.
If that makes sense.

Renewed my licence few weeks back, did it online and got the new one back in just over a week!

I will be 70 in December this year. How long before that do I need to take the medical/submit my application?

Recently renewed mine, on line, got it back within a week(y)

You can submit the application 90 days before your licence expired ,Medical is valid shorter ,check out the DVLA website. But you will need to send off for the D2 and D4 forms, they will not be sent to you automatically.

Many thanks, will have to cut down on the vino in August then!

Using DVLA online is a doddle. The only time I had to post documents it took ages. We lost the sale of our smart car because of the delay. Good job, when we relisted it for sale I got another £1k for it.
Nice one DVLA.

But you can’t do C1E renewal online. It’s postal only.

I’ve already done one, pre covid, no problem, another one in a years time, hope things improve by then.

Somehow, I’m a year out of sync… 🤔. I need to apply for my third renewal in a few weeks, approaching my 77th birthday. Should have been last year? My licence is still valid though…

Thats just what I did and was told the same. I applied Nov 15th last year for my HGV entitlements to be reinstated, my licence arrived this week with C1 added but C and CE missing. You just couldnt make this stuff up!!!!
