I believe you might need a key for the gate across the slip road, last time we were there is was locked and access for fishing club members only.
Never noticed a gate, we just go for a walk sometimes when visiting relatives in Lydd.

I wild camped there last October (cycle touring) and pitched my tent amongst the gorse bushes. There was three or four motor homes in the lay-by opposite the old lighthouse. Think you're better there than the car park that's nearer the power station as a lot of anglers park there, you may get disturbed with them returning to their cars in the night.

We went to The Pilot a few weeks ago. We arrived late morning to have lunch and asked if we could stay to eat dinner in the evening. We were told no, we would have to go away and come back again later. They said they are not at all keen for motorhomes to be there during the day as it takes up valuable space in their car park when they are very busy. But if you arrive late afternoon to eat in the evening and stay overnight, unless you arrive well after 7pm it can be very difficult to find space in their car park big enough to manouvre and get a motorhome in. (We watched a motorhome crunch against the concrete block in the middle of the entrance as he tried to manoeuvre around the cars!)

But there is a good parking area 1.3km away (maybe it should be added to the database?)

From The Pilot, go towards the power station and in just under 1km take first right (Kenton Road) - a sharp double back on yourself. After 300 m there is a large concrete area on the left at 50°55'59.18"N 0°57'54.21"E Plenty of room for half a dozen motorhomes and no notices saying "No Overnight Parking"!

There are also a couple of spots on the north side of Dungeness Road.
