We went to a site recently about an hour's drive away. On the journey there was no problem with gear changing, including a stop-start town section about half way there.
When we arrived at the pitch I needed to make the usual shuffle back and forth to reverse on to the pitch (level gravel).
After initially reversing, then going forwards a bit and then reversing again the gear lever was stuck in reverse. I was unable to move it out of reverse and had to keep the clutch pedal pressed down while I struggled to move the gear lever in to neutral (engine still running). It eventually tugged out of reverse with a bit of a clunk.
At the end of the trip the same thing happened when I got home and reversed in to my parking patch (concrete, slight downwards incline back)
It's a 2016 Auto-Trail, 12,00 miles, 4250kg on a Ducato 2.3, 130bhp.

I wondered if anyone else experienced this or has any suggestions before I consult a garage ?
Thanks

Try stopping the engine whilst still engaged in reverse gear,if it then disengages relatively easily.
Think Clutch area for investigation

Sounds like the clutch is dragging. Could be caused by lots of things including,
Needs bleeding
Overheated
Release bearing/ clutch fork problem.
etc etc.
As stated previously, try it with engine stopped first.

I had a problem engaging and disengaging gears on a 2007 ducato which was rectified by using the adjuster on the cable at the bottom of the gearstick.
It was a real PITA job where you can see what needs to be done to get it right but almost impossible to get at inside the dash. Not for the faint hearted.

Hi, Thanks to folks for the quick replies. I'm not out in the van next until a few weeks, but if it happens again I'll try taking it out of reverse with the engine off. I asked at my local garage today and he explained the difference if it will or won't come out of reverse if I stop the engine. If it will then it was probably clutch drag. If it won't then probably the selector problem. Either needs the garage to investigate :(
Seems a bit soon for clutch wear at 12000 miles, but I don't know what sort of driver the first owner was ....

Clutch fault or worn and not clearing properly due to slipping clutch and getting hot while moving back and forth.
As said, next time hold on the brake and turn off.
Press clutch and it'll come straight out of reverse
