Getting there!
Thinking about trying a dual sim phone, as we need to obtain a french mobile number, but still live and work in UK.

Has anyone tried a dual sim phone, and know if it will work with a french sim card?

As always, many thanks for your time.

Andy

I have a Samsung J6+ that has two SIM slots...

I have only used it with two UK SIMs but don't think there's any reason for it not working with a French SIM

My wife is using the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite and is a great smartphone for the money, check out the online reviews and YouTube reviews.

I don't see any reason why it would not work ok with a French sim card

We bought one the other day from is company.

The 32Gb version at £108.24 - https://www.cclonline.com/product/2...5-84-inch-32GB-12MP-Smartphone-Gold-/MOB0243/

Shirls just bought the Xiaomi (pronounced 'shou-mee) RedMI 7 note which is its big brother.

If you can wait a few weeks and if the leaks / rumours are true then apple will be releasing a new range of phones at the beginning of Sept. one of which is touted to be full dual sim.

Apple, those innovators of technology, are bringing out a dual sim phone :Eeek:.......
Android have had them years.

I have a Samsung J5.

One SIM is my Three number.
The other is my Spanish Movistar number.

Best of both worlds. I give each one a different ring tone.

Motorola Moto G5 Plus has dual sim facility.

I have a dual sim Samsung A70. My old Doogee also has 2 sims but like many Chinese phones does not have NFC so cannot be used for Google pay.
Another thing to consider is the latest plans for banks to confirm who you are by text. NS&I were trying to do that but were failing as I had plenty data on one sim but not the other which is the phone number they wanted me to verify with.
With the Samsung, while Android allows you to set which number has priority for texts, calls or data, (or ask each time), Samsung offers you two buttons for calls which while mildly annoying on an ongoing basis, also means you have to explain to anyone borrowing your phone which button to push.
Samsung are forever doing deals - I got £100 trade in on a 8yo phone I found in the back of a drawer as well as £100 cashback.

I used to have a Cubot x15 used in Thailand with a Thai & UK SIM.
Be aware if you buy a cheap Chinese phone Cubot are the only ones the banks approve for their apps.

We have a PAYG sim with Toggle Mobile and with that you can register for a french number which last about 30 days I believe (its a while since we have had one) but for a small amount (£5) you can make it annual you would then not need a foreign sim card.

Had one for about 18 months. Works well with UK and French SIM's. Needs a complete reboot every 2-3 weeks or it slows down.

I have had a Xiaomi Mi A1 for a couple of yrs with a UK and Cypriot sim and it's great. The added benefit is that it is pure android so it automatically updates every month to the very latest released version. I can tailor this to exactly how I want it and the annoying operating system changes manufacturers impose on most other phones is non existent.

My Samsung Galaxy 9+ has a UK SIM and a French SIM in it, works great. The same goes for my previous phone, a Moto G5.

Wife and I have had them for some years using Spanish/English.Spanish/Spanish. English/English.
Be aware though to make sure,if you need an SD card, that you get one that is dual Sim + SD card,as many you can only have a second Sim OR an SD card.

We've each got a Xiaomi Redmi 6 phone, dual sim, octa core, they work a treat, spec:

3GB RAM 32GB ROM 12.0MP + 5.0MP Rear Camera Fingerprint Sensor + 32GB SD card making 64gb in total

They do a cheaper version to with 2gb and a quad core so depends really on what you need as these are obviously cheaper - quite a lot on Ebay:

We bought ours from Gearbest but these are the best prices now:

I have a Samsung Galaxy A8 dual sim works great with a French Free.fr sim for €2 per month plus a Tesco PAYG which also works well. I have it set up to ask each time which sim to use as it depends on where I want to phone. The Free.fr sim gives 2 hours of calls a month and unlimited texts but only in France. They do charge for the sim though or if you change your phone and want a nano for example which I did.
Beware if you use the toggle service to get a French or any other country. I paid £5 a year to have a permanent french number which is fine if somebody wants to call it but it displays a UK number on the receiving end so is no use for French banking or anything else that needs that sort of security. Beware with the Samsungs the Sim/ SD cadies are very fragile. A friend has a sim stuck in his which he has been told will cost more than the phone to retrieve.
As long as it is a good phone dual sims work seamlessly go for it.
Steve,

Great responses, many thanks folks!

I appreciate the time and detail from you, very helpful.
Cheers
Andy

Like Camdoon I have a Samsung A70 dual sim, which has a dedicated slot for an SD card as well.

Forgot to mention earlier our Redmi 6 phones are dual sim and have a SD card slot which sits alongside on of the sims in the same trays, the other sim has a tray of its own.

A step backwards on the Redmi note 7 then.
It only has one tray... 2 x sim OR 1 x sim plus 1 x SD card

Take a look at UMIDIGI, I’ve just replaced my Nexus 6p with one. Tray has two sim slots and one sd slot. Great phone so far.

I have a Motorola Z3 and a Z2. The second one I used in Portugal, Spain and England and it worked great. My parents used a few generations of Moto G throughout Europe and they worked flawlessly.

LG V30 dual sim.
Best phone I have ever used, but best ordered direct from S Korea. Not a risk, go for it! We live in a global world!!
