Hi all 🙂
We've just got our first motorhome (Wahooo) and hoping to get some advise around downplating.
The motorhome is currently registered at 3700kg however we would like to downplate it to 3500kg. The previous owner had it upplated and stated that it was originally 3500kg, so he doesn't think there will be any issues in downplating it again.
Has anyone ever downplated and If so how did you go about doing it, ideally the quickest way possible so we can get on the road ASAP?
Thanks

:welco:
You can do it yourself just need a weighbridge ticket to show that it is able to run at 3500 kg and send it with the correct form to DVLA them wait a few months for them to get their act together.

Before downplaying I suggest you you fully load it for the longest trip you are lightly to do complete with yourself and any passengers and full tanks then get it on a weighbridge to make sure you won't be over 3500kg.

Edit:
Just noticed you have an N&B I would be very surprised if you could run it at 3500kg.
3700 sounds low even for the smallest N&B.

Are you sure it will have enough payload for your particular needs.
Best load it as you would when travelling and then visit a weighbridge to be sure.
Downplating will also increase the road tax to around £220 from £165.
The previous owner uprated for a reason ...probably not enough payload at 3500kg.

SnowbirdChick. I agree with Lenny HB, re being doubtful at down plating a N+B from 3700Kgs.
If it's in decent condition and a keeper, you might want to upgrade your licence instead.

BTW, I recognise that old codger in your Avatar. Please say "Hello" to Dave for me. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Thanks for the advice all, we will get it weighed in the next few days to see where we are working from. I must stress this is a sub 6 metre N&B that is RHD and imported new into the UK, and was registered at 3.500 kgs new and used at that weight for 20 years. The last owner uprated it to 3.700kgs 4 years ago as he added several solar panels, Trojan batteries, inverter charger, B 2 B, etc, etc.
