We have a fixed double bed in the van and we usually use 'proper' sheets and bedding. We also leave the heating on overnight. Trouble is by the middle of the night (and we've both done some turning, over-heating, getting cold etc.) the bedding is a tangled mess in between us and getting a reasonable share turns into tug of war!

We've decided to give a Double sleeping bag a go and this one seems to leading the race -

Amazon product ASIN B084WM6B1W
or maybe this one -

Amazon product ASIN B077TDGPXN
but we're open to suggestions.

The criteria we are looking at is they have to have at least x2 zips, preferably 2 way separating so that feet can escape on either side if required. It must be double - not singles, it must be 1 or 2 season - not too hot! It's for a heated van not a tent! It must be 130-150cm wide and cost up to £50. Anti-snag, double sided zip fasteners preferred!

Any recommendations or alternatives?

Thanks!

I would say that not wide enough for 2. A standard double duvet is 200cm and that is not wide enough to cover both of us comfortably without us each tugging it over shoulders. We use a superking at 260 cm wide.

I know they appear expensive but take a look at the Duvall sleeping bags, they are not like traditional bags in that the quilt top is nearly double the size of the base memory foam topper, so if you want to use them as a double you just lie them together and pull one quilt over the other, one side zip one side so doesn’t give you that trussed up feeling. Much easier to get in and out of them at wee time !

We gave up on a shared duvet years ago and we each have our own. No arguing or tug of war, plus I can have a much lighter togg than SWMBO will put up with
Ditto! Much better than the midnight fight!

Have you got a link to that? I had a look at Duvalay but couldn't find a double with x2 zips.

(PS There is no way out for the one at the back of the van ... !)

Our bed is only 130 wide at the shoulders and much smaller at the feet, we don't want excess bedding in the kitchen / bathroom!

There are certain snags about bags, in and out is one, another being cleaning. Bag liners are an option but you're potentially in the tangles again. If you dont use the liners, then how do you ensure the bag will be "fresh"? Particilary after a longer journey. Check the cleaning labels before purchase.

Most of them are machine washable these days.

Sorry not clear, you buy 2 singles and have the ‘open side on each between you so you can spoon and still be covered 😍.
just remember you are buying a sleeping back with built in mattress topper so space saving

Ah. Sounds like they would end up in a pile at the foot of the bed ... we really need something that will 'stay put' in tricky circumstances. It also sounds like it would cost £300+ which is too much for our experiment.

£180 fir the pair and no they do not end up at bottom of bed, they sell them at Go outdoors, so you can take a look at them there.

What's wrong with two singles zipped together as one.
Unzip from top or bottom individually.
Usual issue with double or 2 singles zipped together is that one of you ends up with a cold back

I've just been through this in great depth for two singles for the m/h that can be zipped together. After maybe hours of web browsing I ordered 3 lots of 'Two season' ones, each from a different reputable company online during the past 6 weeks and sent them all back.
One had hoods (not shown in the advert illustration) and were a 'Mummy' shape even though the dims shown said they were rectangular. It took 6 weeks and numerous calls to get the refund - (Blacks Outdoor)
The second was far too thick and cumbersome (the label on it said 'Four season' not Two as in the advert).
The third one, the cheapest had a polycotton inner the same in your first pic (your Amazon £39.99 one). That's the awful slippery polycotton lining that snags on toenails and jams zips and is used for the cheaper ones. Mine was far more poly than cotton.
Your second example has the preferable (to me) cotton flannel or brushed cotton lining.
I have decided that it's essential to touch and feel one when choosing.

We’ve always used a double sleeping bag, from tenting through caravanning to our current van.
they unzip completely and a piece of cake to use as no fannying about with sheets and duvets.
cosy when it’s cold. Also gives you a thicker layer to lie on.
We have a Coleman one from Go Outdoors Which has a brushed cotton lining.

Sorry but you lost me.
Open out one bag and lay flat on bed.
Open out second bag and lay on top of first.
Zip together around the outside.... In my book that's a double bag and neither gets a cold back.
Bear in mind you have two zips, unlike a double, so undo zip at EITHER side for either partner to get out or undo just the bottom on one side only if you want your feet to hang. out.

Cold back because the overall size of the double bag doesn’t give you enough material to to tuck in between you, and as soon as one moves the other gets uncovered. Only talking from experience, hence why we bought Duvaly.

That's what I've always done
And the bonus is that you've got the option of using one as a single, especially if one's Significant Other has given you the cold shoulder. ;)

Ours are Vango, 2 singles zipped together 👍 when it's a bit colder Ann has the seat throws on her too, it's surprising how much warmer an extra thin layer makes you.

I like Vango camping stuff but I was worried the bags would be too efficient (hot) for inside use. Do you know which model you got? Thanks.

No, they are blue and black I think. I can have a look when we get home later today if you want 👍

In the van, with pull down bed, we use a king size quilt with sheets, and no heating.
The quilt is a 7tog rating and when its cold a fleece blanket goes between the top sheet and the quilt.
The problem with heating at night is temp changes thru the night and you probably end up to warm or too cold!
