Doormat.

I hope to be out and about Mid-November - Mid-January - for the first time.

I've yet to hit bad weather, being a beginner, but I will, even though I'm a good man.

Which kind of doormat should I buy? I need one to be outside at the bottom of the steps, one that will get the mud off in the rain and not get easily clogged up.

Yes, a serious question.

Bit of Astro turf is as good as anything

I ‘recycled’ a clearpass ‘lorry’ mudflap, found abandoned in a layby in which we had stopped for a cuppa

Clearpass is a trade name for the astro grass type mudflaps - other manufacturers are available

I found ‘astro turf’ was a little soft to clean footwear and tended to clog when used on sandy surfaces

We have one of those black ( couple of inch thick ) rubber mats that have hexagon holes in .
Great for getting any grass mud off your boots.
But saying that we alway get as much muck of as we can in grass first.
( But we never go in with muddy boots on .)
We also have a carpeted door mat inside . So we either take shoes off out or in on either one.
The black rubber doormat travels on the carpeted one . Btw.

Yes we have one of those-quite good but tends to sink & soft ground oozes through the holes. Also a carpet doormat just inside.

PS We use a piece of Astro turf. Easy to clean and folds away nicely.

We have a green plastic mud and snow doormat for muddy pitches. Put in a bin bag and hose down when we get home.

It seems indestructible. Bought 11 years ago.

Ours was a fiver from LIDL under their occasional "Special Offer" non-food range. Seen them in a garden centre recently priced at a tenner.

This year we bought couple of mats to wrap round our steps. They are easy to attach with two springed hooks inserted in two holes underneath, so are also easily detached for cleaning.

They are more like carpet material so do not know how they perform with mud.

I thought that being under the MH when steps retracted they might get wet/dirty from spray from front wheels but that is not the case.

I put a towel on the cotton mat inside.
Easy to put in the wash.

I try never to go anywhere it might rain & on the occasions it does here ,stay in until the sun reappears later If inadvertently caught whilst out I
stay in van /go home.

I've spent 35 years living in the tropics and I am so looking forward to getting back into the seasons, and this time of the year, being wind-blown, out in storms, cold, wet and miserable. I'm sure it will wear off...

I have several reasons for doing an NC500+ when I get really returned. A dozen years ago I was in Oban, if memory serves, when the waves were crashing over the 'promenade' and it was blowing a gale. A real struggle to get the pub door open.

All depends if you're inside coming out or outside coming in
