Hi,
I have a faulty Dometic Freshjet air con unit.
I have been through the Dometic website and all the firms they list as service centres do not service or repair them. Can anybody point me in the direction of a firm that can repair them?

Thanks in advance

Richard

We as a country we are losing the skills of decent technicians , everything nowadays seems to be scrapped. The young 'fridge engineers' today haven't got a clue, how the supermarkets operate is anybodies guess I suppose there is a handful of senior engineers left. We're on the brink of an 'Idiocracy' 😆 I blame the minimum wage, I mean why bother improving yourself if all incentive has been removed?

If you can collar a supermarket engineer (look for their van in the car park) and offer cash you might get lucky. I used to get approached loads of times, usually for car AC though.

Anyway, What are the symptoms? Does the compressor start up?

It blows air but does not heat it. When set on cooling, the compressor kicks in but does not really cool the air it blows out.

What age is it? I was reading a thread on a German web site and they were suggesting that they are scrap at 7 years old as nobody services them.

Looking at the specs, it uses a heating element for heating mode so there might be a couple of faults on it.

Make sure the fan is running on the roof. It needs a set of gauges on it to diagnose the AC side. Could be no refrigerant in it, a blockage or compressor not pumping.

Where are you? I could have a look but I haven't got any refrigerant anymore (actually if it's 134a you can buy it from auto factors) 🤔

6 years old. I have to say that Dometic customer services leaves a lot to be desired.

I don't think there is much if anything to service on them. But you could start by removing the cover if you can access it.
Remove all the leaves and crap in the two radiators with fins. Evaporator and condenser I think, a vac and an old paint brush help get the rubbish out. If it's like mine the evaporator is beneath a polystyrene cover that lifts off.
Put the polystyrene and main cover back on, then switch on, you will hear the blower fan start immediatly, after a few minutes you should hear the compressor start up, it's quite noticable.
If you don't hear it start then that maybe your fault ?
I'm told it's unusual to lose the coolant gas as it's not like a car air con and doesn't have seals that dry up and leak if not used.
But if it does need re-gassing, some of the old gasses are now banned and not available.
That's about the limit of my knowledge from researching these things, good luck
