I have just seen on The Rapido owners website that DVLA are no longer accepting forms from doctors on wheels for renewal of your C1 licence Anybody know if this is true.
Spongy

Just got my renewal back from DVLA, it went in early June so taken about a month,
They did send me an additional form, sorry number on the form escapes me, but it basically asked the same
Questions on the form they already had,
Sent it back and two weeks later new licence arrived,

When I was doing my medical on 1st July there was a guy there having his medical again as DVLA had rejected his DOW medical , as they did with any after 19 June IIRC .

I belive it is just doctor's on wheels at the moment that have been blacklisted, other independent driver medical specialist are ok. If you do a search on here there are other threads discussing the issue.

Filled form to renew my license on line halfway through it said that no longer accepting doctor on wheels forms and i had to send for forms D2 and D4 to reapply for C1 on licence

Doctors on wheels - DVLA

DVLA Letter Regarding Doctors On Wheels

We have had multiple drivers approach us for medicals with a letter from the DVLA regarding their medical done by Doctors on wheels.
The letter states that the DVLA are not accepting any D4 medicals as this company is currently under investigation from the trading standards. Furthermore, any medicals done after 20th June 2019 are not currently being accepted by them.
We do not know the nature of the trading standards inquiry, however, you can be rest assured that at Vitalmedicals all of our medicals with the interest of safety at the forefront. I had mine done two days before the DVLA put the stoppers on - but luckily it was accepted!

Not at all surprising, DVLA are likely not getting the correct weight of brown envelope?

I had my medical done at a nearby HGV driving school. Slightly more expensive that Docs on Wheels at £70. But I didn't have to travel far, it was very efficient and was obviously ok with the DVLA as I got my licence through pretty quickly.

I would have thought that one of the problems is that if you see your own GP they have the benefit of your full medical history do the other providers do thorough searches of medical info from the GP before assessing drivers? Maybe the DVLA have found that companies setting up just to do medicals are more interested in a high throughput of tests than accuracy/safety

If everybody had to rely on own doctor you would need to book the next medical as you finished having the current one , don't think there is enough capacity in the system to deal .
But if everyone used their own GP the Drs that work for the private companies would have to work somewhere else so there would be increased capacity.

The D-O-W doctor that did mine was a very young foreign girl, probably eastern European and there was very little questioning about my health. Pleased with the price but worried that there may be other drivers out there that shouldn't be.

My thoughts exactly. Mine was done by a young foreign guy, no doubt medically qualified, but apart from asking some of the questions on the form didn't seem to be interested in anything else. As far as I'm aware I have no medical problems, but would he have had enough experience to see any in others who were perhaps a little liberal with the truth?

I have said before if it was all about safety it would be free. The price our dr charges plus tells you when he will do it not when suits you even though you’re paying. So loss of a day’s wages plus his fee is just daylight robbery.

You have a funny view of what people would do. If you had the choice of making easy money just rubber stamping a form or putting up with moaning old people and all their problems and wanting to know why they can not have X amount of drugs to take in their motorhome. I wonder what they would choose ?

I believe these are still accepted

I could be wrong

So if all the DRS on wheels type jobs go and there are no rubber stamping ones what do they do then?. Of course it could be that the public are safer if they are left to the rubber stamping!!!!

If they thought working for the nhs was so marvellous then they would already be doing it. How can you make someone do a job just because you say so ? As I said if the hgv medical was a safety it would be free.

There is ONLY one medical company that is not acceptable to the DVLA and that is the one mentioned.

Why should it be free. It's not as if it is essential for life. If you want the right to drive then you need to pay to prove you are not, on balance going to hurt someone.

Because it’s a tax on my job simply. To make it fair then everyone should pay a tax on their jobs.

It's not a tax. It's to try and stop drivers killing people.

I got my medical done by D4Drivers they advertise on here so, why not. I got my licence back reasonably quickly (y) (y)(y)(y)

Lots of jobs have a "tax" as you put it on them . I have to do compulsary continuing education an enhanced DBS check carry a few million in professional liability insurance etc etc. If its part of the requirements for the job its just the way it is I suppose in the same sense its unfair on the doctors carrying out the medicals to have to be qualified!!!!!

The last time I checked with my dr it was 2.3 days wages not including commuting costs to pay for a medical, plus a lost day . I think that’s a tax . You’re obviously on a lot more money than me and it’s ok for you.
