I was wondering how many of us use use our motorhomes during the winter months or lay it up for the duration of the colder months?

My personal thoughts are that modern motorhomes are well prepared for winter & therefor (CV-19 allowing) I see no point is not using it.
There is something nice about chilling out on a stormy winters day on a site with the heating on & a good book or movies to while away some relaxing time.

However, I can understand that some folks cannot stand the cold & maybe more so, don't like the dark nights.
If you don't use the motorhome in winter, could you explain why?
Winter, spring, summer & autumn for us. Either a few hundred miles away or 10 miles down the road at our local site.

Nothing wrong with winter weather, its about wearing the right clothing thats all

Cant think of anything worse than sitting in a PVC in the middle of winter when I could be sat at home in front of a nice log burner. So, ours goes into storage from the end of October to some time in March. But, bear in mind that we are all different especially if you have a large motor home. Each to their own.
Brilliant heater in our PVC.

The only thing stopping us at the moment is the current lockdown!

Yes and no for us, had Xmas away in it last year and loved it but Covid is hindering what we do this year. We will be looking to get out in New Year, so fingers crossed.

I’d say it depends where you are parked up and what your view is, I would be parked up by a coastline with Otters playing on the shoreline wanting their photo taken. The weather didnt bother us last December 🤗

Rapido & Bongone
We downgraded from a Bongo to a Rapido to use as much as possible and retired expecting to at least overwinter for 2 months at least once this last 3 yrs, but definite sandwich generation fortnightly trips to MIL and almost constant grandson duty. 2 and half years and now got to 5 thousand miles woop de blxxxy do. Was lucky to be permitted to have 2 weeks off.

we like to get away for winter weekends if it is dry and cold. But parked up our van in November 19 and other than moving it to wash it, still there now

The odd night away especially if going out for a meal and meet up with Friends, so we can all enjoy a drink, and days out so we have all of our own facilities and can sit warm and dry.
All before this enforced captivity,
But hope to resume normal service soon

Yes, we use ours throughout the year. We have just returned from a few wet and windy days at the C&MC site at Pembrey.

Although the weather was poor we used the m h to visit the local area. It was bliss to be away after travel restrictions followed by lockdown.

We use ours, generally go west, as we can get dark skies and solitude. We will lie on ground and watch the stars and milky way above, and if lucky will catch shooting stars or ISS going over. We walk during the day out in the hills or on the beach depending where we go. If we go to Spey Bay we'll hopefully watch the dolphins frolicking in the sea. We don't need a camp so find a nice quiet secluded spot.
Nothing better than staying in the van in bad weather playing Scrabble or Backgammon with the rain battering down all cosy and snug inside, watching the countryside or beach out the front windows, especially if we've been out in it. Can sometimes watch the stags rutting, or even go out late at night in absolute pitch black and find we are surrounded by deer.

So yes, the vans are made to be used all year round.

No question - use MH all year round. Love coming back to cosy van after winter walk. Will never tire of underfloor heating. Plus ski for 5+ weeks per year if able.
MH is parked by house - I feel bad if I don’t go in it every day. I‘d say the longest it‘s been parked up without moving is 2 weeks

Love winter trips. Wrap up good walk with dog, chatting to different people from the dog walk at home, lovely country pub with roaring fire. Dog lies by fire, nice meal couple of pints then back to toasty van and a glass of red before bed. Places like Keswick, Chatsworth, Castleton, Moreton on Marsh and even Cofton Park on south coast can all be recommended .

We use ours all year round (current restrictions excepting) but for the most part it tends to be as a weekend day van (albeit a fairly large one). We will pop down to the coast or Ashdown Forest and have a walk and some lunch sit and read/watch the world go by and come back home for the night.

Given the chance we will try and use our motorhome during the winter if only for a couple of nights to give it a run out.
The big problem in the winter is the distance we can travel in daylight. I would prefer to be set up before it goes dark.
My setting up involves engaging P and plugging in the EHU (where applicable). I can do both with my eyes shut. :giggle:
