Some people like casino's......
Others like gambling in the man shed.

It's a long time since I' ve done that. I once borrowed a strapping tool and baling wire from work to do mine. As I recall they went a bit bananna shape but managed to pull the springs in enough to fit them. (y)

I can't believe the amount of cabling around the danger zone too!
For anyone looking and thinking so what?
This is the equivalent of shoving your arm down a loaded cannon to pull a hot cannonball back out.

Whats wrong with the old-fashioned method of sitting on the wing of the car and when the spring is compressed using lots of cable ties to hold it ?

Why do so many people have issues with compressing springs.

Providing you’ve got the pair of compressors opposite each other and wind down evenly alls good ?

That is probably your answer.

I have also had to “improvise” in the past but, fortunately, in the dim and distant past now.:(

I had to improvise with my bike shock.
Could get my compressors in and clamp down enough ?

Pity it wasn’t a video

When he gets it compressed what's he going to do with it with those long clamps holding it?

I once had a Wolseley 4 . 44 many years ago Within a couple of weeks a half shaft broke, only had a small bottle jack so carefully jacking up each side 6 inches at a time and putting scraps of crazy paving to raise each rear wheel, counting on the break being in the diff which was usual When I had raised the car high enough to get my head underneath the axle I started to undo the bolts and as I carefully eased the two halves apart the whole car swung to one side I held it's position As God knows what flashed through my mind until I started screaming for my Dad to come out of the house which he did whilst still reading a Newspaper, I told him to place one hand on the side of the car and not to push just to hold it, which he did As soon as I crawled out from under the car he said 'Hey have you seen this article?' Mr Cool? No he just had not a clue as to my predicament!! I replaced his hand with mine told him to back away and then let go and jumped back the car crashing to the ground!!

Was that a lucky escape? It still makes me sweat whenever I think about it over 60 years later

No good you need jubilee clips, getting new one on is the hard bit.

I also would love to see the pic ,after he had either reeased one clamp or spring compressor but as is. I don't think that shock absorber in the background is going in there .::bigsmile:

I worked for Firestone's in Brentford in the 70s and owned a Audi 100 (towed a Sprite Musketeer) and needed to replace the front shocks a friend in the engineering dept made me a two clamps with threaded bolt through the middle worked a treat, cheers Eddie
