We are waiting for delivery of our new MH.

Since ordering it we have spent time listing what things we would have fitted that would be dealer fitted, rather than things that we have already ordered from the factory.
What opinions do you have re. dealer fitting (and cost), against finding a local company to supply and fit. I am looking at sat.dish, inverter, solar panels and suchlike.

Complete non-tech novice view here, if the dealer fits it all, there's only one place to go to if there's a problem, dealer & local company can't blame each other & leave you with no remedy.

The only real advise would be look at if it is the dealer actually installing the items suggested or is it a third party they are bringing in to do the work. This is more for you in the future if you require telephone assistance and can they answer the questions on the products you have paid them for as the customer?

with regards to price then reputable companies should all really be the same as quoted by the manufactures.

Shop around for prices - it's not worth saving a couple of quid over dealer prices because, as @CWH says, anything goes wrong there's no pass the parcel as to who has to fix it.
Also convenience - will be collected, ready to go - no having to book in, travel to, or wait around for a third party to fit whatever.

Of course if the can find a massive saving, on the same kit, over dealer prices then that's worth thinking about.

That does seem good advice. So long as the dealer is a specialist in the items that you wish installed. Remember that when you buy something, that it only one part of the equation. You need it installed, you need it demonstrated and you will need future back up, telephone assistance and possibly on going maintenance.

Sadly, the experience of many on MHFun is that the dealers can't even manage the PDI work properly, this is just checking what the factory have fitted. Once the PDI is done, then comes the handover. Again, sadly, it seems that most Funsters experience of the handover is that it is rushed and not well explained. This on a motorhome costing Tens of Thousands of pounds.

Again sadly, when people contact their supplying dealer to have warranty work carried out, they are either not impressed with the dealers attitude to genuine warranty claims, or are to busy selling motorhomes to want to bother clogging up their workshops with warranty work.

So, although I agree that in an ideal world you would be able to get everything done at a "One stop shop" it probably isn't the supplying dealer. Frankly, it was why we started Van Bitz nearly 30 years ago as the supplying dealer wanted our money, and never wanted to see us again, unless we wanted to buy another motorhome!

Another thing that some people think it that if the dealer installs something it won't affect the warranty. This of course isn't necessarily true, and of course the warranty is a multi faceted thing anyway

Contact your motorhome dealer about your brand new "ABC" motorhome on say a Fiat cab saying that you have a problem with the headlights and you will be told to speak to a Fiat dealer as "That bit is covered by Fiat"

Whilst at the Fiat dealer, mention that the rear brake light has "Condensation in it" or "Flickers" and you will be told that, that bit is "Nothing to do with Fiat, and that you will have to go back to your caravan dealer" A problem with a Dometic fridge is likely to bring a third party to the table as well lol

We always recommend picking your dealer based on price, availability and proximity. Once you have your cherished, chosen motorhome Cherry pick the items you want installed based on research, recommendation and past experience to ensure you actually get what you want.

Remember, when you hear that the 2017 "ABC" motorhome comes with a "luxury pack" You may be thinking automatic awning, twin lens camera linked to a top end navigation system with a fully automatic, latest spec satellite system. The Company buyer, who's job it is to get the best spec within the budget may have different views!

"Where is my satellite system?" "It is in the carry case in the boot Madam, along with the tripod and the compass! By the way, have you down loaded the free navigation App to your iPhone yet?

Thanks for adding that Eddie. Really essential advice.
I do claim to have very little experience or knowledge (well, none really); I think we were just lucky when we chose our first moho that the dealer was also accredited to do all the installations, servicing and repairs in their on-site workshops.
But also we shortly found converter and vehicle specialists within 5 miles of home, which made it all even more convenient.
