Currently enjoying the cool air (38 degrees!) in the Hautes Savoie.

New van last year. Second trip across the channel.

Despite buying and carefully applying sticky beam deflectors so my lights have the output of an asthmatic glow worm, every third car is flashing us at night. Turning the dipped beam to its lowest setting so it focuses about 6 inches in front of the bonnet doesn’t make much difference.

What do others do?

* Ignore them? After all we won the war for them so they should be grateful.
* Only drive between 11am and 1pm on a sunny day?
* Buy continental headlamps and switch before we travel abroad? (My favoured option as it really is a 2min job on the Ducato).

Or something else?

I use deflectors bought from the ferry... been on a long time and don't have problems/ never flashed.
Fitted your deflector correctly?
Tried finding a pattern on web for your headlights and used black electrical tape?
How much weight have you got on your rear axle?
Would swapping lamp units affect your legal status, insurance etc?

Driving at night in a Motorhome - madness.

Sounds like you haven't fitted them correctly. See if you can point the van at a wall a few metres in front of the van, the beam should look fairly even, if it kicks up to the left they are not fitted in the correct position.

Buy a set of headlight protectors, easy to fit and remove and come with correctly positioned reusable beam deflectors for use when driving abroad.

I don’t fit deflectors.

They don’t when they come over here so why should we?

They will be saying we must like garlic next:rolleyes:

I was thinking of saying that but was pretty sure with your love of our continental friends that you would not disappoint.:rofl:

Agreeing with all the others but wine is so much nicer than beer out there. Beer is a just an aperitif for wine, then breakfast.

Sounds like your lights are set too high rather than too wide. You may be back heavy. If you are in haute savioe at the moment the Mrs is currently at Seyssel til thursday morning and we have a set of wieghing scales in the van if you need to redsitribute stuff. We have our lights on permanently on and never been flashed during daylight hours. Parking against the wall and checking the height of the lights as suggested by Lenny HB is the obvious first port of call.

I don’t have beam deflectors but do love garlic. I don't drive the motorhome at night anyways, too pissed by the time it gets dark. Anyway the hella headlights on the Rapido are too dim to dazzle anyone.

My late grandmother put me off garlic.

She thought a clove of garlic was the whole bloody thing:oops:

I also had a bad experience once in Feurteventura when in a hotel and I piled my plate up with a full english including fried mushrooms and when I started eating it I suddenly realised they were garlic mushrooms:sicker:

Putting garlic mushrooms anywhere near an English breakfast should be a criminal offence.

When fitting deflectors to my Hiace I drove to a friendly MOT garage near home and positioned them while looking at their beam checker.
I ended up fitting them in quite a different place than the instructions suggested, but the beam was perfect and verified.

Vecause most are flat.like mine .they ho up & they go down. They don't dip to the right on any vehicle we have had .

The only time we drive in France at night is when we cross the Channel late.We do get flashed occasionally, but I just ignore it as we only drive in the dark for an hour at the most.

We were travelling over on the ferry 2016 2 days before Wales were to play Portugal in the euro semi finals at Lyon.
Queued up waiting to board and surrounded by the taffies looking all confused with their newly purchased beam deflectors.
I had some to put (which i hadnt for a couple of years) and thought i would have some fun so i popped out of the van with cup of coffee in hand. Opened up the packet, Looked at instructions (which might as well be in Dothraki) and promptly placed them on the headlight. Possibly nowhere near they were meant to go.
First welsh bloke asks me to do his so I look at the instructions again and put them in a different place and so it carried on. Think i did about 5.

It amused me and all these Welsh were very thankful at the time.
