Pardon my previous ignorance but I've just found out that dashcams are illegal in Austria and some other countries.
Has anyone ever had any legal troubles with their dashcam?
Mine has two cameras and is used as a rear view mirror, so I obviously do not want to remove it if possible.

Nobody bothered us in Austria. Then again the police probably didn't see it🤔

Interesting issue, does that mean they have to ban new tourist coaches as many of ours have built-in camera systems that are permanently live!

Interesting point about the coaches. Also need to add Teslas and Mercedes etc, as they built in cameras.

As far as I can find out, Austria does not have an outright ban but has banned the posting of dashcam videos for 'privacy' reasons .

The RAC however say they are banned outright.
Chauffeur.com says - Banned – If you are found to be in possession of a dashboard camera in Austria (it is not even legal to own one!) and get caught, you will face an eyewatering fine. First-time offenders will receive a €10,000 fine and if you are caught again, it is over double at a fine of €25,000. I cannot verify this though so may be just click-bate.

Other sites state that - A dashcam is legal if the data is processed only for the sole purpose of documenting an accident. Data must be continuously overwritten if there has been no accident. Only in the case of an accident may the recordings be retained, but must be limited to the absolute minimum extent (eg, one minute before the accident to a few seconds after the accident).

Ah well, can always go round via Italy and Slovenia.....
