my 2019 Autotrail has just had its second habitation service and its come back as damp of 45% in some areas
its not quite 2 years old can I insist on Autotrail fixing at the factory ?
im gutted after all the problems I have had I've genuinely had enough now
im considering getting rid now

Seems to be a few funsters on today with new van woes 🤢
Hope you can get sorted 👍

My 2012 Apache 700 went back to the factory 5 times in 7 years. It knew it's own way.
So yes, contact the factory direct as the dealer apparently gets paid a lower labour fee and often it's not high on their priority.
Good luck.

How annoying.
(Good time to sell though ;) )

I think that AT will insist you takeit to dealer for repair and not the factory

Where is it leaking? With the one piece roof I cannot see there are many places for it to leak. With the old style Alu sheet and frame construction maybe...
Very disappointing build

Cheers James

Not really. As I understand it the dealer is only legally responsible for the first 12 months. It is then covered under the extended warranty given by Autotrail. The dealer gets approval to do the work and gets paid by Autotrail BUT at a lower labour rate compared to what they can charge Joe public.
I had 6 claims over 7 years of ownership. 5 times back at the factory and one year at a local authorised repair agent as it was a window re-seal and less hassle then going up to Grimsby.

Sorry to hear, hope you get it sorted 🤞

Thanks for your sympathy guys , I still want to carry on motorhome but I have no confidence in this one
if I buy another what brand do I go for and which dealer ?

Ithink Sandra irnbru 's went to the factory?
No our AT wasn’t new enough. Our leak in that one was at over an window, we fixed it ourselves. The Benimar has gone back to dealer twice.

Best damp check for anyone is To bring your motorhome to Scotland in winter

I hope the OP gets it sorted once and for all.

Really sorry to hear of your water ingress issues and, yes, get in contact with AT advising them that repair at factory is required.
This is \ used to be (April 2020) the email address for their Warranty and Aftersales Manager - paul.boulton@auto-trail.co.uk

What areas have you seen the high readings in?

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.

If you're on Faceache then place a message on the Autotrail Unhappy Owners Group as there's quite a few Autotrail owners on there in the same predicament as yourself. There's also a number of them going through the rejection process too with help from Vicky and others.......

......they'll be able to guide you on your best future course of action.

A number of members on the Unhappy Club who have had severe damp problems with their Autotrail Apache 634 vans, prior to getting rid, so you should receive some very practical advice.

Be aware that a trip back to Grimsby doesn't always mean a satisfactory repair. There was one 2018 Apache 634 owner who had damp readings of 80% and 90% (roof, sides and rear) at the first hab check; it then went off to Autotrail for 6-weeks to be repaired but then failed the second hab check with damp readings of 90% to 100%.

Good luck with your enquiries.

I think he’s already on there. 😎

I had to sell my AT Delaware to save my health as i brought it brand new in 2015 but had so many leaks and trouble with it i had enough and p/x it in for an A Class Rapido Tag Axle. I dont believe any motorhome will be trouble free but with this one its not been damp thats been the issues and the trouble we had early on was quickly sorted. Ours is now 4 year old and i will be going back to get a damp check next month just to keep the 5 year water ingress warranty valid but i have not seen any signs myself which is always a good sign. Some people on here have had no issues with Autotrails so i guess they are not all the same. Its how it gets dealt with that can be the most stressful.

We have just found damp in 3 places in our 2018 autotrail imala, it was in 1 place last year and autotrail ‘solved’ it under warranty. It would be interesting to know how many people have this problem???

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 will cover you under Defective Goods (this includes vehicles that develop faults). Of course, that doesn't help you if you've lost confidence it in altogether but it help you get it resolved, then you can sell it on. I hope this helps and good luck.

The simple answer is "lots"!

There is a reason why Autotrail is the only manufacturer with its own Unhappy Owners Club.

Good luck

10 year old Dakota lives outdoors. No sign of damp. One of the lucky ones I guess.

As I understand it the dealer is only legally responsible for the first 12 months.

Don't confuse warranty with your statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act. These rights take precedence over and above any warranty or guarantee you may have with the manufacturer. It is ALWAYS the responsibility of the dealer to put things right. Even years down the line (if they sold you something faulty).

You do not have a contract with the maker. No matter what the dealer says, it is their responsibility to put things right, if that means the maker has to be involved it is up to the dealer to liaise with them.

Rapido. Second hand…or third or fourth…..
Buy privately if you can.
I agree with privately, but Pilotes are good and oh look!, I've got mine for sale in the classifieds ;)

Hymer, or any quality German brand, thats why we bought one as we were really taken with Autotrail until after our research. 2014 reg, bone dry and really pleased with it.

I was told the damp was coming in on my AT from underneath. The rain splash was getting into the floor as all the seals were kapput.
Rather than the hassle with AT i had A&E Leisure fix it £885.
Then i sold it. Didn't want the new buyer thinking i'd done one. Even though it went to a dealer.

I was wondering if AT build quality had improved recently, there doesn't seem to have been so many complaints on here recently, and quite a few have been singing their praises. Mine is a pvc, it's labeled AT but luckily was built abroad (Italy?), it's been great.

I’m selling it when it’s been fixed and need to researche which is the best one to get for around my budget of around £52000 any recommendations guys ?

Got rid of our Imala 730 after it came back with 40% damp behind the driver area apparently it's the beading on the outside and it was 2 years old , I didn't want to take the risk of it coming back and having to pay for it myself .
